discussion included a review of the strategic plan timeline and upcoming action
steps; presentation of draft data dashboard; and review and selection of substance
abuse prevention strategies. Subcommittee members elected to explore two options
for preventing prescription drug abuse and overdose. The first is to review available
data to identify providers in need of pain management training and registration with
the Controlled Substance Reporting System (CSRS). The second strategy is to
explore the creation of a policy for screening of prescription drug misuse/abuse and
prescription and/or distribution of naloxone at the OCHD. Naloxone reverses the
effects of an opioid overdose, is not a controlled substance, and has no abuse
potential.
