Discussion to clarify and revise the handout, as necessary. Decision on definitions to guide retreat planning and implementation 9:00 Process far Setting Priority Goals and Objectives far FY 2007-08 • Review proposed process (to be distributed at the work session) • Discussion to clarify and revise the proposed process, as necessary. • Decision on a process for setting priority goals and objectives. 9:30 Process for addressing Board organizational issues • Discussion/Decision o Liaison appointments o Input from advisory boards o Other issues 10:00 Adjourn Proposed Definitions of Important Terms Goal - a general description of the change that we seek on an issue, such as "increase the number of affordable housing units in Orange County." The direction of change is communicated, but not the size of the change or a timeframe. Issue - a topic of interest, such as "affordable housing" ar "child abuse prevention." Objective - a specific description of the change that we seek, in that it includes the size of the change and a timeframe for the change to happen. For example, "increase the number of affordable housing units in Orange County by 300 before June 30, 2008." Priority -the quality or state of Gaming earlier. The issues we want to deal with before other issues are our "priority issues." The goals we want to achieve before other goals are our "priority goals." Retreat -The time during which the Board and its senior staff identify priority issues and goals, as opposed to work sessions and other meetings when lower-order organizational business is conducted.
