HomeMy WebLinkAboutCH-OCVB minutes 022305Minutes Chapel Hill/Orange County Visitors Bureau Board February 23, 2005 The Chapel Hill/Orange County Visitors Bureau Board met in the conference room of the Economic Development Commission, 110 East King Street, Hillsborough on February 23, 2005 at 8:00 a.m. Board Members Present: Moses Carey Rick Strunk Frances Dancy Bill Crowther Anne Loeb Linda Convissor Mark Sherburne Creston Woods Rachel Phelps Hawkins Board Members Absent: Kevin Callaghan (excused) Edith Wiggins Staff Present: René Campbell Betty Davis Guests: Dianne Reid CALL TO ORDER Mr. Pavao called the meeting to order at 8:07 a.m. WELCOME AND INTRODUCTION OF GUESTS Mr. opened the meeting by welcoming Board Members and new Board Member Ms. Rachel Phelps Hawkins and Ms. Dianne Reid. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Mr. asked for approval of the minutes of the December 15, 2004 meeting. Mr. Bill Crowther made a motion to accept the minutes as presented. Mr. Moses Carey seconded the motion. With all Board Members in agreement, the motion was carried unanimously. COMMITTEE REPORTS Budget and Finance Mr. Carey reported that the income and expenditures were in line and the Visitors Bureau was financially sound at this time with no expense exceeding the revenues. Mr. Pavao asked for a motion to accept the financial report as submitted. Ms. Frances Dancy Made a motion to accept the financial report and Mr. Rick Strunk seconded the motion. The motion to accept was unanimously accepted. Marketing Mr. Rick Strunk, Marketing Chair, reported that a group had been hired t create a new log for the Visitors Bureau. It is anticipated that the logo may be presented in about six to 8 weeks. Mr. Strunk also reported that the “wedding guide” had been printed and available for distribution. The “wedding guide” was printed in lieu of the “Happenings” (quarterly “Happenings” Calendar of Events. Copies of the “wedding guide” were distributed to Board Members. Mr. Strunk also reported that the Visitors Bureau conducted a “hospitality training” that attracted 20 front line people from Orange County accommodations and attractions. Strunk also highlighted the “Food for Thought” campaign that Ms. Campbell is currently working on to promote Chapel Hill and Orange County. Mr. Strunk announced that the North Carolina High School Athletic Association’s basketball championships would be held the second week in March. DIRECTOR’S REPORT Ms. René Campbell reported that Orange County is beginning the 2005-2006 budget process. She will be actively working on the budget for the Visitors Bureau’s next fiscal year. Ms. Campbell reported. Ms. Campbell Ms. Campbell stated that NEW BUSINESS OLD BUSINESS Mr. Carey addressed Board Members regarding the Bureau’s fund balance. Other Matters of the Board and Announcements ADJOURNMENT With all business of the Board completed, Mr. Pavao asked for a motion to adjourn the meeting.
