Chapel Hill/Orange County Visitors Bureau Board
December 14, 2005
The Chapel Hill/Orange County Visitors Bureau Board met in the Conference Room at the Chapel Hill/Orange County
Visitors Bureau, 501 W. Franklin Street, Chapel Hill, at 8:00 a.m., December 14, 2005.

CALL TO ORDER
Mr. Pavao, Chair, called the meeting to order at 8:15 a.m.
WELCOME AND INTRODUCTION OF GUESTS
Mr. Pavao opened the meeting by welcoming Board Members, guests and staff members.
PREATION PRESENTATION
Chair Pavao asked for approval to make a change in the agenda to allow Mr. Lancia to make the website presentation to those in attendance. Mr. Lancia provided
a presentation highlighting significant progress in development of the new website. Completion date for the Bureau’s new website has not been determined.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Mr.
Pavao asked for approval of the minutes of the October 19, 2005 Board Meeting minutes. Mr. Bill Crowther made a motion to accept the minutes as presented. Mr. Rick Strunk seconded
the motion. With all Board Members in agreement, the motion was carried unanimously.
COMMITTEE REPORTS
Budget and Finance
Mr. Moses Carey, Finance Chair, was not in attendance.
Ms. Dianne Reid, Director of Economic Development Commission reporting for Mr. Carey stated that the occupancy tax collections to date were 20% over last year’s collections. Overall
the Bureau’s financial report reflected under-spending in most line items. It was disclosed that the tradeshow budget was low but Board Members were told the next two tradeshow booths
would be shared with other North Carolina convention and visitors bureaus and revenues would be generated from the cooperative efforts of the bureau’s sharing expenses of the two major
tradeshows in this 2005-2006 budget year.
Marketing Report
Mr. Rick Strunk deferred the report to Laurie Paolicelli.
DIRECTOR’S REPORT
Ms. Paolicelli, Executive Director, introduced
Linda Ekeland, Director of Sales for the Bureau. Ms. Ekeland presented “Group Sales July 2002 thru November 2005” in Orange County. Copies of the presentation were distributed and
a copy of the report will be archived with the approved minutes of the meeting.
Ms. Paolicelli showed a presentation entitled “State of Travel and Tourism – Chapel Hill/Orange County
North Carolina”. Copies of the presentation were distributed and a copy of the presentation will be archived with the approved minutes of the meeting.
NEW BUSINESS
Lee Pavao stated that the Bureau was exploring the possibility of having broadband installed to accommodate the anticipated growth of website usage by potential visitors
to Chapel Hill/Orange County.
Mr. Pavao recognized Ms. Paolicelli for her work and new initiatives she has put in place since October.
OLD BUSINESS
No old business for discussion.
Other Matters of the Board and Announcements
Mr. Pavao recognized the updates of new photographs and banners in the Visitors Center’s appearance.
ADJOURNMENT
With all business
of the Board completed, Mr. Pavao asked for a motion to adjourn the meeting. Ms. Dancy made the motion to adjourn and seconded by Mr. Crowther. With all Board Members in agreement,
the meeting was adjourned at 915 a.m.
