The minutes for tF.e meetings held on October 1st and October 8th were reed by the Clerk and
approved by the Beard.

Eft, CaeF.e Hoggsr County Dog Wardens asked the Hoard to have the County Attorney rule on a
situation in Checel fi111 involving n dog Which had pat been listed for taxes or vacoineted. Susie
Weevers the owner of the dogs had instructed the Dog Warden to vaccinate the dog end list 3t for
tsatsy agreeing to Day ell expenses incurred. The Beard requested that the County Attorney reoort
to them ]n ter in tF.e day on whet authority the Board had 1n this matter.
ESr. D. R. Sink L7om the Lfurphy School area appeared and asked about the tax reduction he find
requested et a previous meeting, Efr, Sink was informed that the Heard had not made its tour and
that L!r. Sink would be notified of the Hoard's decislon.
LSr. 17. E:. E`.eCauley oT Chanel Hill requested that money he had oaid in taxes be refunded to him
as he did not own the property on Which he tad paid tares,
Uoon motion of Commissioner Seniors seconded by Commissioner Walker and unanimously pessedy it
was ordered that Lir. ':~eCauley be relLnded 555.43y the amount en'oneously charged hip for 1954 tares,
Upon motion of Coamissfoter Lanlery seconded 69 Commissioner £f ]and and unanlmously oassedy it
was ordered that the 1955 taxes of th'. W, L1. GeCauley be reduced by the sum of $57.64y es this sum
was erroneously charged him on property owed by someone else.
L1rs. Ssllie Whitey Acting Welfare Svoerintendenty presented one blind aid grant for reduction
and twc b13nd aid grants for termination due to the deaths of the recipients,
Etx, halter Wrenny Civil Defense Directory pre seated a letter 4Om Pennie L. Dania ly Director
of Civil Defense in Durham, This letter reaue sted that !,'r, Wrenn notify E{r. Daniel of the facilities
available in Orange County to receive the citdzens of Durham in case of an enemy attack,

sions suggested that same proposed legislation be written that would gips the FSre District Comvissio
and the Hoard of County Commissioners the authority to extead the File District witF.out having to
obtain the consent of all the property mrsrs in the area that wants to be admitted. The Hcerd re-

Upoa motion of Commissioner Ralkers sec ended by Commissioner Efl¢nds and unanimously epproveds
Commissioner Dwight Asy was rimed to represent Orange County at the Industrial Deve looment Corpornti
meeting in Fayetteville on December 5th. This meeting concerns the Ceoe Fear River Es sin Pro,jec t.
Chairman Hobbs reed a letter from the Iduseum Committee of the Hillsboro Garden Clubs requesting
the Board to designate a site for a Lfuseum for Orange Ccunty,
The Basrd recommended that the upstairs room in the Confederate 2Semorial Library be used Tor
the hfuseums and they resolved that they will give the tiusewn Committee their cooperation in helping
to establish en3 emuip seid Museum once the plans are complete.
Fred Cnte ss Jr. was present and discussed with the Bpnrd the price of the proper ty that the
County has considered buying from him. Np action was taken on this matter,
Conmissicnsr Efland suggested that new legislstion be proposed Tor this County that only
lbee holders be slim, ed to vote in Orange County Hotta Elections. There was some discussion on this
proposals but no action etas taken.
Commissioner Ffland recommended that the Board set nside certain areas to be designated as
"garbage disposal are ¢s" far the use of the suburban housing developments. This also would ba
included in the proposed legislation For 1957, tlo action was taken oa this recommend¢tiott,

Bcsrd reaffirm its decision made on June 4s 1956, concerning the amendment to the election laws of
Orange County with. Commissioners Relkezs Rays Lanier ¢nd Efland voting is the affL^mstive and
