Agenda Items / Notes (April 12, 2017) Call to order Chair Rich called the meeting to order at 5:30 PM 2. Introductions Introduction of members and staff 3. Update / Trails & Greenways Map / Chris Dwinell- Application Development Specialist; OC Land Records /GIS Chris gave a short background/Tour of the project for new members. Seach Boxes will: • Show trails • Search trails and admenities • Trail marker locations will aid 911 with calls Type Filters • 1St Urban or Rural • 2nd Trail Region (Chapel Hill; Carrboro; Eno; Orange County; and other) • 3rd Trail System Current Status and next steps • Add trail markers • Review data Input • Develop legend • Develop graphis • Creation of Web App • Install a test page • Obtain feedback from test • Link Trails and Greenway Map to Interactive Parks Locator Map • Each entity will promote the new site on their webpage similar to the Interactive Parks Locator Map 4. What's on the Horizon? / Long Range Parks and Recreation Plans A. Town of Chapel Hill — Linda Smith (Assitant Director - Chapel Hill Parks and Recreation) American Legion property • Town purchased 32.22 acre site • Adjacent to Ephesus park • Charrette on the 8th • Some of it may be sold The town and Orange County are working together to host the Bike Across NC program with overnight camping on October 3rd at Homestead Park B. Town of Carrboro - Anita Jones - McNair (Director - Carrboro Recreation & Parks) & Wendell Rodgers • Town Wide Space needs study going on and includes parks and Recreation facilities • Redesign for MILK jr. Park; hopeful to identify funds for construction • The programming side of recreation is looking at their service delivery /staff configuration to see ifchanges need to be made. Carrboro Day is May 7 • Senior Games are wrapping up. C. Town of Hillsborough — Stephanie Trueblood - Hillsborough Public Space Division Churton St Improvement Project begins April 17. • 8 -10 months of construction with lane closures. • The town received a $100,000 Downtown Revitalization Grant to improve amenities — benches, planters, etc. all items have been ordered but not all have been placed yet. West Hillsborough will be getting sidewalks /crosswalk improvements Hillsborough is one of 35 cities to be named a "Bee City" • Pollinator friendly rain gardens, etc. will be popping up • Pilot project at Cates Creek Park The Public Space Division is now a reality and will tak over maintenance of public areas Community Connectivity Plan —just updated and adopted by Town Board in March D. Orange County — Dave Stancil (Director Orange County Department of Environment, Agriculture and Parks & Recreation) MST Segment 11 Community Meetings are complete. • A report will be presented to the BOCC May 16th with the preferred corridor map BW F Park • RFP beginning deveped to hire an engineer to design new entrance • Bee Keeper's Association would like to produce honey there • Milkwed planted for the Monarch Butterflies • Masterplan revisions will need to be made Accquired 37 acres next to soccer.com center for additional fields • Natural /Synthetic fields to be determined • Expansion 2019 -2020 E. City of Mebane — Dean Ray (Director of City of Mebane Recreation and Parks) New Community Park on Clay Street — will include • pineapple husks artificial turf soccer fields, • spray park, • playground, • dog park. • Projected opening April 2018. City approved a Bike and Pedestrain Plan April 21 -22 Dogwood festival Baseball; Softball and Soccer sign up going on F. Others TLC — In 2010 TLC purchased the Brumley property • 613Ac • Now called The George and Julia Brumley Family Nature Preserve • Grand Opening - April 22 • 5 miles of trails • Walkers and hikers in the morning and bikers in the afternoon Eno River Assocation — Open Air Pavillion opening in 2018 UNC — a unique partnership between athletics /student affairs /and staff — 11 1/2 acres of indoor and outdoor practice facilities will be used by the athletics department/the student body/ and as classroom areas. This is not the norm for university facilities. Joint use of practice /training facilities. 5. Housekeeping Issues a. Possibly adding a "Senior" category to the membership / IPWG found the recommendation acceptable - Marabeth to follow up with adding a staff from DOA and one board member from their board b. Review the membership roster for terms due to expire - Marabeth will contact all members in Jan each year to verify if they will be serving on the board that year. c. Switching from a 3 meeting a year to 2 meetings a year format / IPWG agreed to move to meeting two times per year — April and October 6. Adjournment 7:OOpm.
