Re: Reappointment of Molly Stein
Date: 2/20/2018
On behalf of the Orange County Nursing Home Community Advisory Committee I would like to
recommend Molly Stein for reappointment to our committee.
She is a very enthusiastic and active member of the committee. She participates actively in
nursing home site visits, is consistently advocating for residents when meeting with Nursing
Home Administrators, and emphasizes quality of life issues. She prepares reports, and attends
meetings (please see attached attendance record). She is presently working as a nursing
assistant in a hospital setting with the goal of becoming a licensed health care provider. Her
work schedule varies from week to week and she works 12 hour shifts. Due to her work
schedule she has missed 2 out of 6 meetings, however, because of her work she brings
valuable insights to the committee when discussing resident quality of life. She is a great
addition to and a valued member of our committee.
Please let me know if you need additional information to move this recommendation forward.

Nursing Home Community Advisory Committee
Background, education and experience relevant to this board:
I am currently a junior at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill studying to prepare to go
to Physician Assistant school. I have a true passion for helping people in any relation to
medicine. I cannot wait to be a physician assistant and look forward to any opportunities with
experience in the medical field before I attend graduate school. I have extensive shadowing
experience in many different realms of the medical world such as hospitals, nursing homes and
private practices. I am an emergency room ambassador at Duke Regional Hospital and have
experience interacting with patients. My grandfather is in an assisted living facility in Florida and I
am familiar with how nursing home and assisted living facilities work. Therefore, I have
experience from an employee s point of view (during nursing assistant clinicals) and from a
family member s point of view with my grandfather.
Reasons for wanting to serve on this board:
With my shadowing and volunteering experience, I am only able to do so much to help. I yearn
to be able to make a bigger difference in people s lives. I know that this position will help me do
that. Through my shadowing and nursing assistant clinicals, I saw some unjust situations which
really broke my heart and were wrong. This is what made me want to get into the field of patient
advocacy. I believe it is our responsibility to speak and act for those who cannot, especially
those susceptible to abuse and neglect. This is something that I have been wanting to do for a

Adult Care Home Community Advisory Committee
Background, education and experience relevant to this board:
I hold a graduate degree in social work, specific to community planning. I completed a graduate
practicum by serving as a community planning intern with the Orange County Department on
Aging. I am now employed with a UNC public health research group which conducts research
primarily in geriatric long-term care settings (both nursing homes and adult care homes/assisted
living)
Reasons for wanting to serve on this board:
As project coordinator, I do not spend as much time in the field as the data collectors (my
supervisees) do. I feel disconnected from community based work in my research role and would
like an opportunity to re-engage in a more direct way. With that being said, I do maintain an
interest in policy and state-level decisions that influence the long-term care industry and aging
populations. Ombudsman advocacy seems to touch on the importance of larger level issues
while also incorporating resident-level input.
