HomeMy WebLinkAboutAHAB minutes 041012Affordable Housing Advisory Board Minutes of April 10, 2012 Members Present: Patsy Barbee, Diane Beecham, Katherine Doom, Anna McDonald Dobbs, Rashii Purefoy, James Stroud Members Absent: Lynda Baker, Jonzella Bailey- Pridham, Martha Hoylman, Arthur Sprinczeles Staff Present: Tara L. Fikes, Roxanne W. Reynolds Welcome /Introduction Patsy Barbee welcomed everyone to the meeting Public Comments None Approval of Minutes - February 14, 2012 and March 13, 2012 James Stroud made a motion to approve the minutes of February 14, 2012 meeting and Diane Beecham seconded the motion. The motion was approved unanimously. James Stroud also made a motion to approve the March 13, 2012 meeting and Diane Beecham seconded the motion. The motion was approved unanimously. Outside Agency Funding Application — EmPOWERment, Inc. Tara Fikes briefly discussed the incomplete pages in the Outside Agency Funding Application for EmPOWERment, Inc. Fikes stated that the budget office checked their files and the application reviewed was the same as the one received by that office. Thus, the previous rating will remain the same. Communitywide Media Strategy Anna McDonald Dobbs stated that the UNC- Chapel Hill School of Journalism class working on this strategy will present their final campaigns on Friday, April 27, 2012 from 9 -11 a.m. Advisory board members were urged to attend the presentations. Reserve parking spaces would be available at the Morehead Planetarium. Anna will meet members at the Southern Human Services Building to carpool to these reserve spaces. She also stated that she would follow -up with an email to get a head count of members planning to attend. . Fikes distributed the following copies of the PR Campaign mid -term final proposals to the Advisory Board. This information is incorporated as an attachment to the minutes. Board Member Re- appointments Fikes reminded members that the election of officers will take place at the June meeting. The Orange County Clerk's Office has dropped Alex Babbitt from the board roster because of his lack of attendance. Rashii Purefoy's term expires on June 30, 2012 and since she has served her two terms she cannot be reappointed. James Stroud made a motion to recommend to the Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) the reappointment of Anna McDonald Dobbs and Martha Hoylman. Katherine Doom seconded the motion. The motion was approved unanimously. Presently, there are four (4) vacancies available. Board members were encouraged to continue to recruit new members. Department Report The following items were reported: • Fikes distributed and briefly discussed the housing goals and strategies of the Department on Aging 2012 -2017 Master Aging Plan. This information is incorporated as an attachment to the minutes. • The Advisory Board agreed to have a table to distribute material at the Hog Day Event on Saturday, May 19, 2012 from 9:00 am — 6:00 pm. Arthur Sprinczeles volunteered to make arrangements for renting a booth for the event. Katherine Doom and Patsy Barbee volunteered to work on that day. Other Business James Stroud stated that he met with Susan Levy, Director of Habitat for Humanity to receive clarification regarding A Brush for Kindness. This program is a locally- operated program serving low- income homeowners who struggle to maintain the exterior of their homes. Recipients are responsible for as little as 10% of the cost of repair based on the individual's income. Rashii Purefoy made a motion to adjourn the meeting and James Stroud seconded the motion.
