Minutes of February 14, 2012
Members Present: Jonzella Bailey- Pridham, Lynda Baker, Patsy Barbee, Diane Beecham,
Katherine Doom, Martha Hoylman, Rashii Purefoy, Nannie Richmond, Arthur Sprinczeles and
James Stroud

Welcome /Introduction
Patsy Barbee welcomed everyone to the meeting.
Public Comments
None
Approval of Minutes January 10, 2012
James Stroud made a motion to approve the minutes of January 10, 2012 meeting and Nannie
Richmond seconded the motion. The motion was approved unanimously.
James Stroud announced that the grand opening for the Homeownership & Economic
Development Corporation was successful and well attended. James thanked Arthur Sprinczeles
for his attendance.
Community Wide Media Strategy Follow -up
Fikes distributed and discussed a copy of an email from Anna McDonald Dobbs regarding the
meeting with the PR campaign class on January 30, 2012. The group has developed a
questionnaire to interview Orange County citizens to include local citizens, civic groups, and
community group regarding their knowledge /awareness of affordable housing. James Stroud
mentioned that UNC- Public Television has used balloons as a way to get attention in order to ask
question to random citizens. The PR campaign class has expressed interest in interviewing
Board members and obtaining their email addresses and board members agreed to both. The
members also requested copies of the survey and interview questions that will be used for this
project. This information is incorporated as an attachment to the minutes.
Outside Agency Funding Application Review
Board members discussed the 2012 -2013 Outside Agency Funding Applications /Scorecard for
non - profit organizations in Orange County seeking funding. The members were asked to review
the applications for discussion at the next meeting. This information is incorporated as an
attachment to the minutes.
Department Report
The following items were reported:
• Fikes announced that Mark Johnson submitted an email stating that he has resigned from
the Board due to personal reasons. A Certificate of Appreciation will be mailed to him
for his service on the Advisory Board.
• The 2012 Calendar /Annual Report was presented to the Board of County Commissioners
(BOCC) at the January 24 I' meeting and they expressed their appreciation.
• Community Alternative for Supportive Abode (CASA) has officially the purchased Club
Nova Apartments. An event has been scheduled for Friday, February 17, 2012 at 9:30
a.m. at the Carrboro Century Center to celebrate this and CASA's 201' anniversary.
• Orange and Wake Counties participated in the National 100,000 Homes Campaign
canvassing the homeless during the last week of January. Fikes stated that they
interviewed a total of fifty seven (57) homeless individuals. This Campaign is designed to
identify the most vulnerable in the community and connect those individuals with
housing and services.
Other Business
Arthur Sprinczeles suggested that the Advisory Board participate at events held in Orange
County to distribute information regarding affordable housing. Examples of these events include
Hog Day and Last Friday.
Rashii Purefoy made a motion to adjourn the meeting and Jonzella Bailey Pridham seconded the
motion. The motion was approved unanimously.
