III. Minutes Approval There was no quorum and minutes were tabled to the September 2016 meeting. VI. County Updates A. The Library staff expressed their thanks to the HRC for their assistance with the grant that they received. (James Davis and Gerald Ponder assisted with the grant writing.) B. Audrey Spencer - Horsley said the Fair Housing Assistance Program grant was finalized in mid -July. Our agency was awarded $15,000.00 and we have until December 31, 2016 to expend the funds. Page 1 of 2 C. Membership: Monica Richard reviewed the member attendance requirements and provided an update on status of members. It was the consensus that attendance will be reviewed quarterly. 1. Colin O'Banion resigned effective August 3, 2016. 2. Desaray Rockett, Youth Representative, resigned effective August 19, 2016. Ms. Rockett has left the area to attend college. 3. Vacancies: The HRC presently has eight vacancies and is diligently working though applications that are on file. The members agreed to invite persons interested in serving on the HRC to the next meeting. 4. The HRC discussed the issue of absenteeism. It was stated again that all members should contact the Chair or Pam Reynolds if they were unable to attend a meeting. D. Audrey Spencer - Horsley informed the HRC that the Affordable Housing Advisory Board is planning a housing tour on September 10, 2016 and they are welcome to participate. VII. Subcommittee Updates A. Diversity Matters: Rollin Russell put forth "Our Muslim Neighbors" as a focus for the Community Read and the 2017 Human Relations Month. He is recommending the book "No god but God" by Reza Aslan for the 2016 -2017 Community Read. The members discussed the recommendation and whether the focus should be broadened. B. Community Relations The following items were tabled after a brief discussion on the timing for these events and whether there should be an evaluation on how they can be more effective in reaching out and getting greater involvement by the community: 1. Pauli Murray Award Ceremony (Tabled) 2. Human Relations Essay Contest (Tabled) 3. Fair Housing Poster Contest (Tabled) C. Community Justice HRC discussed setting up procedures to address issues brought before them. They agreed to check into what they can do and to take it on a case by case. Chair, Monica Richard will develop a template for the Commission to follow. VII. Other Business /Announcements HRC members discussed the policy and procedures for removal of members that exceed the limit of absences for meetings. VIII.
