L Call To Order
Chair Monica Richard called the meeting to order at 6:05 p.m.
IL Introduction
Two new members, Jacqulyn Podger and Delvena Jones, were welcomed to the
commission and then each person introduced themselves and gave some background of
their affiliation with the commission.
III. Minutes Approval
There being no quorum, the September 12, 2016 minutes were tabled until the November
meeting.

IV. County Updates
A. Audrey Spencer - Horsley informed the commission that there presentation on the
Accessible Icon Project is scheduled to go before the BOCC on November 1, 2016.
Rollin Russell and /or Monica Richard will make the presentation.
B. Audrey Spencer - Horsley explained to the HRC that staff is to be their first line of
contact when they need press releases or items to go before the BOCC. She also
announced that the new Director of Community Relations, Todd McGee, is now on staff.
V. Subcommittee Updates
A. Diversity Matters: As previously announced the book, "No god but God" is the
chosen book for the Community Read which is held in March. The planning for
this event is going well.
B. Human Relations Forum — January 29, 2017 will explore "Religious Freedom,
Pluralism and Islamophobia ". The planning for this event is also moving forward.
C. Community Relations
Joyce Preslar asked for volunteers for the Community Relations subcommittee to
help her come up with ideas and also help with the logistics of these projects. The
projects are tabled until a plan is formulated.
