Discussion Point: Review of June 2014 Minutes
Decision /Vote(s): Discussion of minutes. No changes.
Action Item: Vote taken; minutes approved unanimously.
Discussion Point: Director's Report
Decision /Vote(s): Need 1 or 2 board members to serve as Emerging Artists Program discipline panel
members for the Durham Arts Council (DAC). Panels meet last week of October; full committee will meet
on November 5th (2 -4 pm) at DAC. Art Menius (Exec. Dir. of ArtsCenter) is resigning from his position at
the end of the month. Their board will be heavily involved in governing and operations until a new
director is selected, probably sometime next year. October BOCC abstract deadlines (to be on their
meeting agenda) are approx. 2 -3 weeks prior to their meetings. If we want to present a proposal to them
in October (for public art or otherwise), we'd need to meet the September 15th deadline (for their October
7 meeting) or October 6th (for their October 21s' meeting). We need to determine if this is the timing we'd
like to pursue. It was noted that the OCAC will celebrate its 301h birthday on February 4, 2015.
Action Item: Lindsey Alexander volunteered to serve on the DAC's EAP discipline panels & full committee.
Discussion Point: New Applicants for OCAC Board
Decision /Vote(s): OCAC board reviewed the current Volunteer Applicants for the OCAC.
Action Item: OCAC board voted to suggest the names of Tim Hoke, Tinka Jordy, Bronwyn Merritt, Joy
Salyers, and Scott Van Manen to the BOCC for possible appointment.
Discussion Point: CHOCVB Liaison, Ad Hoc Committee Updates
Decision /Vote(s): Deb Hepp reported on the recent Visitors Bureau board meeting. Their media plan
( "Edge of the Triangle ") is continuing their focus on the arts. She reported that Laurie Paolicelli said their
media plan needed to focus as much on the arts as on sports. The Alliance for Historic Hillsborough is
meeting with a marketing firm to do a strategic plan to expand marketing for Hillsborough. Marketing
Committee reported on ideas from their recent meetings. We can determine whether database needs
expansion, and survey those people to see what OCAC can do for them. Email will ask recent grantees for

a brief narrative RE: impact of grant. Will use responses on website, enewsletter, and on printed materials
to raise awareness and attract applicants, especially individuals. A small committee will help to plan our
Festifall booth, possibly including a musician, raffle and food. An updated newsletter and website, with a
focus on grant recipients, was suggested. Help with Wordpress is needed RE: structure /design of website
(currently in test mode on UNC's Ibiblio server). There is a possibility of payment for this technical help. It
was noted that OCAC has been given $5000 in additional FY15 funds for marketing.
Action Item: None
Discussion Point: OCAC Board Mini - Retreat -June 29, 2014 (1:30 -4 pm)
Decision /Vote(s): Time for examination of current structure. Laying groundwork with BOCC is important.
Need to determine what OCAC wants to do (RE: public art, etc.).
Action Item: None
Discussion Point: Nominating Committee for New Officers
Decision /Vote(s): Need to appoint an ad -hoc Nominating Committee to bring a slate of officers back to
the OCAC's September meeting.
