Discussion Point: Review of October, November and December, 2013 Minutes
Decision /Vote(s): In the absence of a quorum, no vote was taken to approve these minutes.

Discussion Point: Director's Report
Decision /Vote(s): Interim County Manager Michael Talbert (an Assistant County Manager) has
announced his retirement (as an Assistant County Manager) at the end of March, 2014. But he will stay on
as Interim County Manager on a month -to -month basis. New NC sales tax laws do not affect individual
artists unless they do performance art and charge admission for people to watch, in which case they must
collect sales tax. 2014 performances advertised in 2013 are exempt. 2/21/14 Artists' Salon will be "Speed
Dating for Artists & Venues ", an idea presented by Meg McGurk of the Chapel Hill Downtown Partnership.
Meg will solicit participation from the 2nd Friday Art Walk venues. 5/16/14 Artists' Salon will offer
EverWondr (online arts calendar) training. Seven (7) applicants have applied for the 2014 Piedmont
Laureate Program (authors of short fiction). OCAC Board Member Lindsey Alexander will serve on the
selection panel, scheduled to meet at the Durham Arts Council on January 24, 2014.The OCAC would like
our Public Art line item reinstated into the county's CIP. Gordon Jameson mentioned that we should
explore ways of being better partners with the Visitors' Bureau, starting with a meeting with Laurie
Paolicelli. OCAC Board Members Gordon Jameson and Devra Thomas volunteered to meet with her.

Discussion Point: New Applicants for OCAC Board
Decision /Vote(s): New Volunteer Applicants Kathleen Ponder and Brian Finch were discussed.
Action Item: Staff will contact Kathleen Ponder to see if she is still available and interested in serving.
Staff will contact Brian Finch to ascertain his experience in the arts.
Discussion Point: CHOCVB Liaison, Ad Hoc Committee Updates
Decision /Vote(s): The CHOCVB board did not meet in December, 2013.
