Board members present: Tim hbke, Chair, Doris Friend, Suetary, Lynne Albert, Delia Keffe,
Jan Fbgers, Dan Mayer, Bronwyn Merritt,Consuelo Marshall,Anita Mills, Helen.ones,Ashley Nissler
Board members absent: Tinka,brdy, Tarish Rjokins
Staff members present: Katie Murray, Director
I. Hoke called the meeting to order at 6:30.
II. Albert moved, Nissler seconded to approve the April,2017 minutes. Motion passed.
III. Director's Fbport:
• Murray thanked board memberswho have volunteered to participate in various
events during the past month.
• Murray is hosting Orange County Creatives meet and greet at Mystery Brewing in
Hillsborough on June V 6:00 p.m. Board members are encouraged to attend.
• Several board members volunteered to attend the NATA conference on Tuesday,
June 16th
• Board membersare invited to attend the unveiling of the Mark Bliott sculpture at
Orange County Animal Services on Thursday, June 29th
• Pease MARKYOURCALBVDAR OCACGrants Panel meeting on Saturday July 151h at
the Link Building
• Save the date: "Paint it Orange" plein air painting event October 25-271h in
partnership with Hillsborough Arts Council
• New board member orientation will take place sometime in May. TBD
• Murray met with two potential new board members. Albert moved and Hill
seconded to elect Chris Kubica to OCAC
• Murray reported that turnout to the grant training sessions has been strong. Also,
there has been significant increase in activity on our website.
• M urray spoke to the Orange County Artist Gild in April.
• Murray reminded the board that OCACis not permitted to award grantsto
organizations that receive funds from the Sate. Wewill partner with The Arts
Center to fund school shows outside of the grant process.
• Murray isworking on setting up listening sessions. There was general agreement
that small groups are the best approach.
• Murray met with Assistant County Manager. It was determined that changes to the
OCACstructure will be reconsidered following completion of our transition process.
IV. Liaison Fbports:
• Hoke: The Vsitor's Bureau is gearing up for the National Association of Travel
.burnalists conference next week. Ranning for new 100-room hotel in SDuthern
Wage.

• Friend: No report.
• Mills: No report. Thanks to Katie for speaking to the group last month.
• Mayer: The Arts Center is implementing a high school artist apprenticeship for
Carrboro residents this summer.
• Fbgers: Raymaker's production of"My Fair Lady' broke attendance records. The
&Ammer Youth Conservatory is presenting"Bye Bye Birdie" this summer.
V. Advocacy Updates:
• Hoke reminded board members of the importance of participating in Face Book and
Twitter to promote OCAC
• In addition, Hoke encouraged board members to be active advocates in the
community. Talk to everyone about OCAa
