HomeMy WebLinkAboutArts Commission minutes 061217 ORANGEOOUNTYARTSOOM M ISSON BOARD M STING Monday,.lane 12,2017 at 6:30 p.m. Link Government Services Building 200 S Cameron St, Hillsborough, NC Board members present: Tim Hoke, Chair, Doris Friend, Suetary, Lynne Albert, Delia Keefe, Dan Mayer, Cbnsuelo Marshall,Anita Mills, Helen,ones,Ashley Nissler, Tinka,brdy Board members absent: Tarish Rjokins, „bn Rogers, Bronwyn Merritt Guest: Chris Kubica Staff members present: Katie Murray, Director I. Hoke called the meeting to order at 6:30. II. .ones moved, Nissler seconded to approve the May,2017 minutes. Motion passed. III. Members introduced themselves to Chris Kubica, new board member pending approval. IV. Board Member Update: Following discussion, Mills moved,Albert seconded to leave the one remaining board position vacant in order to continue our commitment and on-going efforts to develop a more diverse applicant pool. Motion passed. V. Director's Fbport: • Murray thanked board members Nissler, Keefe, Rpkins,Albert, Friend and Hoke who volunteered at the National Association of Travel Journalists event. • Murray thanked Friend, .ones, brdy, Marshall, Mayer and Nissler who volunteered at the Orange County Greatives Meet and Greet at Mystery Brewing in Hillsborough. • Murray thanked Hoke for representing OCACat the unveiling of the Mary Carter Taub mural. • MARKYO URCALENDAR Grant review panel will meet at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 15tn • SAVETHEDATE "Paint it Orange" plein air paint-out event in partnershipwith the Hillsborough Arts Council October 25-27,2017. .bnes and Friend have agreed to serve on the committee. • There was disappointing response to the call for participation in the 4ch Congressional High Svhool Art competition. M urray will work to improve this next year. • Fifty-plus submissions have been received in response to the call for art at the Carolina Inn. • Arts map with imbedded Google map function is almost ready for the printer. • Albert moved, Nissler seconded to approve CCACcontribution of$1 Kto the Town of Hillsborough bee pollinator publicart program. Motion passed. • Murray announced that our website recorded an all-time high number of views at 5,432. M. Grant Discussion: • Murray distributed ahand-out detailing the 2017Cjde. Total Applicants: 54; Total Available Funds: $51,130 etc. • Murray distributed a hand-out detailing our new grants panel procedures. Following discussion, it was agreed to follow these procedures as amended and documented in an email from Murray to the Board on June 12th which incorporates suggestions generated during discussion. MI. Liaison Reports: • Hoke: The Visitor's Bureau heard a presentation from Mark Nelson, Director of Communications and Marketing, Carolina Performing Arts. • Friend: Working with Hillsborough Arts Council Board Chair to update the agency's personnel policiesand their search processfor their new Program Coordinator. • Mills: No report. • Mayer: The Arts Center is conducting a search for a full-time Production Manager.
