I. Hoke called the meeting to order at 6:30.
II. Murray read the memo she sent to the Orange County Commissioners earlier today,
informing them that OCACis no longer on probationary statuswith the North Carolina Arts
Council.
III. Friend moved, Nissler seconded to approve the July,2017 minutes. Motion passed.
IV. Board Member Discussion:
• M urray announced that she will soon be sending a skills assessment survey to board
members.
• We still have two open seats on our board. Board members are strongly
encouraged to help identify candidatesto fill these positions. 90ecial emphasis
should be placed on diversity and the performing arts.
• Murray asked board membersto consider volunteering to serve asVice-Chair.

V. Director's Fbport
• All 2017 grant applicants have been notified of their selection/non-selection.
• SWETHEDATE The North Carolina Arts Council and OCACwill hold ajoint press
conference on October 5,2017 at 6:00 to announce the very positive results of the
Arts and Economic Prosperity survey. The press conference will be held at Leland
Little Auction House, 620 Cornerstone Drive, Hillsborough, NC
• Plans for the Rein Air event in October are going well. Board members are
encouraged to consider serving as a host home to out of town artists.
• The unveiling of the Cold Park Bee Hotel will be held on Saturday, November 4cn
time TBD.
• More than 50 submissionswere received in response to the Carolina Inn's call.
Fbgrettably, none of the entries were acceptable to the Inn. Murray will put out
another call with ashift in focus toward UNCand more details about budget, display
space,etc.
• Fifteen applications have been received and reviewed for the OCACIntern position.
The pool has been narrowed down to four. Katie and Doriswill be reviewing essays
written by the candidates and will conduct interviews soon.
• The digital version of the OCACArt Map is available online. The printed version will
go to press after one more proofing by board members.
M. Grant Discussion:
• Following a short discussion, Marshall moved and Nissler seconded to form a sub-
committee to review our grant process. What worked well? What can be
improved? Keefe volunteered to serve on this committee.
MI. Liaison Fbports:
• Hoke: Vsitor's Bureau—nothing new to report.
• Friend: Hillsborough Arts Council—I am being considered for board membership.
• Mills: Katie reported for Anita- Agroup of"local artists and concerned citizens"
have prepared a report comparing Chapel Hill to Fbleigh, Durham,Cary and
Greensboro. Agood building block for future study.
• Mayer: The Arts Center—The Carrboro Arts Council is alive and well again. Co-
sponsoring the Shimmer Event in February and plans are in process for a mural. Dan
distributed the 2017-18 Arts Center school catalog. Classes are selling"like hot
cakes!" Twenty-four concerts scheduled for this season. In October,TACwill
partner with Kalisher to honor the recent passing of Founder, Jesse Kalisher.
• Fbgers: Katie reported for Jen—New PRC2 production"Count" opening August 23-
27. This is a co-production with OCACgrant recipient Hidden Voices.
VIII. New Business:
Mayer suggested that Katie establish aforum on the OCACwebsite for artiststo express
themselvesabout the recent and horrible events in Charlottesville instigated by Alt-Right
demonstrators. P!pkins encouraged the board to consider taking the Pacial Equity
Institute's training which he described as"life changing."
