Board Members absent: Bronwyn Merritt, Tinka,brdy, Dan Mayer, Cbnsuelo Marshall, Helen,ones,

Staff Members present: Katie Murray, Director
I. Hoke called the meeting to order at 6:30.
11. Katie asked for darification about Item 8 in the August minutes. It was agreed to defer this
discussion to the October meeting. Absent a quorum, approval of the August minuteswas
also deferred to October.
III. Board Member Discussion:
• Murray announced that Jan F;bgers has resigned from the Board due to the birth of
her first child.
• We now have three open seats on our board. Board members are strongly
encouraged to help identify candidatesto fill these positions. 90ecia1 emphasis
should be placed on diversity, UNQ Chapel Hill Arts Commission and the performing
arts.
• Chris Kubica expressed interest in stepping into the Vice Chair position. Thank you
Chris!
IV. Director's Fbport
• Part-time Intern Georgia Brunner started her employment today. Thanksto Doris
Fiend for her assistance with the interview process.
• Murray isworkingwith the ad hocOiltural Arts Group on exploring an artscenter
for Orange County. The group will be working on a study to demonstrate why the
arts are critical to the economy and tourism; examples of other similar
communities; proposed solutions and plans for advocacy.
• Another 20 pieces of art were presented to the Carolina Inn for review.
• Pans for the Rein Air Paint-Oct are going well.
• 1 M PORMANT DATES
o Tuesday, September lyh, 7:00 at Southern Human Services Building in
Chapel Hill. The Commissioners will present checksto our grant recipients.
o Thursday,October 51h, 6:00 at The Arts Center in Carrboro. .bint press
conference with the North Carolina Arts Council to announce Mate of the
Arts in Orange County statistics.
o Friday, October 27th, at the Hillsborough Arts Council. Judging of the Rein
Air Paint-Out winners followed by the Wet Paint sale.
o November 4th, at Gold Park in Hillsborough. Unveiling of the Bee Hotel.
o BOARD M EM BARE ENODURAGED to attend these events. It is especially
important that we have outstanding representation at the OC7FOBEt5_rH
RFESS OON FEENCE
V. Grant Discussion:
• In follow-up to the August decision to form a subcommittee to review our grant
process, Murray, .brdy and Mayer met. Thanks to Tinka and Dan for their input.
The committee will meet again, date TBD. Al working artists on the board are
encouraged to attend. Your input will be valuable.
M. Liaison Fbports:
• Hoke: Visitor's Bureau—The Visitor's Bureau ended the fiscal year more positively
than expected. However, HB2 is still causing some very large conferences to cancel.
• Friend: Hillsborough Arts Council—HACholds their annual meeting in September. I
was excused from the meeting. I have been elected to serve on the HACfor the
coming fiscal year.
• Mills: The Artists Guild is busy preparing for the annual audio Tour on November 4-
5 and 11-12. The Guild isexploring ideasto attract younger members.
