HomeMy WebLinkAboutAdult Care CAC minutes 072816Orange County Adult Care Community Advisory Committee Meeting Minutes July 28, 2016 Meeting convened: Meeting called to order at 3:37 p. m. at the Passmore Senior Center in Hillsborough, NC by Chairman, Max Mason. Attendance: Max Mason, Chair Deborah Stewart, Secretary Carmelita Karhoff, Ombudsman Autumn Pittman, Ombudsman Beverly Foster, Member Cresha Cianciolo, Member Yvonne Mendenhall, Member Suzanne Haff, Member Gloria Brown, Member James Bartow, Member Mary Fraser, Orange County Department on Aging The absences of Jack Vogt, Will Lang, and Debbie Rider are considered excused. Review Minutes, May 19, 2016 The minutes were approved, with a minor edit and clarification. Introductions and Membership Update New Ombudsman is Autumn Pittman. She transferred here from the Regional Ombudsman program in NC's Region L. New member, Cresha Cianciolo is a nurse. She volunteers at Carol Woods, does Music & Memory, and works with Duke HH & Hospice Dan Hatley's seat is officially vacant. Per Carmelita, the Ombudsman's office will send him a letter thanking him for his service. Ombudsperson Report, Carmelita Karhoff None of the changes that were proposed by the Administration for Community Living (ACL) were approved by July 1. Currently, the CAC nomination and appointment processes will remain as they were, but changes may come in the future. CAC Leadership Development is scheduled for September 28th at the Triangle J Council of Governments office in Durham. This leadership training brings together 10 separate committees. Visitation Reports • Carillon (6/2/16) — approved • Villines (3/31/16, amended version) — reviewed, previously approved • Villines (6/2/16) — approved • Brookdale- Meadowmont (7/14/16) - approved • Carol Woods (7/13/16) — approved It is recommended that team leaders now email the dates of upcoming facility visits so other members can join if they wish, and thereby increase their exposure to the various facilities in our area. Report from the Department on Aging, Mary Fraser The Department on Aging is working on developing their next 5 -year Master Aging Plan (MAP). Phase One: Mary has sent us a link to an electronic survey which attempts to measure citizens' aging concerns. She encouraged us to forward to other groups as well. Phase Two: A series of focus groups will be taking place, throughout the county, tomorrow (at Mapleview Dairy's Agricultural /Education Center) through August 11tH Mary encourages us to attend since it will be an excellent way to share our concerns about LTC issues. She will email us the schedule for the focus groups. Phase Three: On Oct 26th in Chapel Hill, and on October 28th in Hillsborough, survey results and focus group information will be shared, where they will solicit more feedback to assist with prioritizing the goals. Dementia - Friendly Community update — Orange County Departments have been mandated to do this as well as the Town of Chapel Hill, including bus drivers. In the public sector and private business community, 30 have been trained plus 12 scheduled. 50% of their public- facing employees go through the training. Promote this as you are able. Other Items of Note Max will reach out to Charlie Williams, the Adult Home Specialist at Orange County DSS.
