HomeMy WebLinkAboutAdult Care CAC minutes 032416Orange County Adult Care Community Advisory Committee Meeting Minutes March 24, 2016 Meeting convened: Meeting called to order at 3:37 p. m. at the Passmore Senior Center in Hillsborough, NC by Chairman, Max Mason. Attendance: Max Mason, Chair Jack Vogt, Vice Chair Deborah Stewart, Secretary Beverly Foster, Member Deborah Rider, Member Yvonne Mendenhall, Member James Bartow, Member Gloria Brown, Member Carmelita Karhoff, Ombudsman Inas Al- Rawas, Ombudsperson in Training Review Minutes, January 21, 2016 The minutes were approved with note that Deborah Stewart's absence was excused. Ombudsperson Report, Carmelita Karhoff Inas is Ombudsman -in- Training so Carmelita will handle the reports to the Commissioners /state. Mary's report re: event April 17th, "Disrupting Dementia" is actually April 21 ". Possible discount for persons who work for Orange County, committee members included, and financial assistance available (see website). Carmelita will investigate that further and report to us. There are two parts to the event and flyers were distributed. Charlotte Terwilliger has retired. Inas encouraged us to share info with ALF administrators about "Healthcare Emergency Preparedness Education for Licensed Care Administrators" on May 4I' at FirstHealth Hoke Hospital. Seats are still available but seats are going quickly. Free CEUs for administrators. She reminded us about the Activity Reports and provided blank copies. Jack's report — New Resolution Proposed Jack Vogt presented that during personal visit at Signature SNF, voting was occurring and well organized. Volunteers from the Dept on Aging were also present. Knowing that voting is fundamental right for citizens that is indirectly referred to in the Residents' Bill of Rights for Adult Care Home Residents, Jack investigated this further. He discovered that a facility can contact the Dept on Elections who has a multi - partisan team (MAT) that will work with facility staff and, using the Absentee voting process, will provide residents the opportunity to vote. Lead time is needed and it is recommended that a facility contact them at least a month in advance of an election. Committee moved to adopt a resolution with the intention of providing it to our ACHs. It was suggested that we collaborate with OCSNFCAC. Committee agreed unanimously with further development of the formal resolution needed before official passage. Due to upcoming election in June, it was encouraged that we work on this quickly. Visitation Reports • Brookdale at Meadowmont (2/11/16) — approved • Carol Woods (2/11/16) — approved • Carillon (12/17/15) — approved • Villines (12/21/15) — approved • Stratford (3/23/26) — approved • Crescent Green (3/23/26) — approved It was suggested that it might be helpful for us to review meeting minutes of any Residents' Councils. Max will email us with Family Care Home assignments. Other Items of Note The "Death with Dignity" forum was well attended with more than 400 attendees. It was videotaped and will reportedly be available for viewing. Overall, it was a big success and there may be more discussions to come. No one was able to represent the committee at the Orange County Commissioners work session on Feb. 9, 2016. Commissioners have been forwarding more applications to Max to fill openings on this board and Max is conducting phone interviews.
