MINUTES
Present: Jim Kitchen, Delores Bailey, John Anderson, Mark O’Neal, D.R. Bryan
Orange County Staff: Steve Brantley, Yvonne Scarlett, Amanda Garner, Tina Love
Call to Order
Minutes were approved by consensus
Old Business
o Steve Brantley let the members know that in addition to the two vacancies on the Board, Nitan Khanna
resigned his position.
o Discussion on potential candidates was discussed
Director’s Report
o Projects have ramped up and there have been return visits on some of those. Utilities extensions are in the
planning stages for the Hillsborough EDD.
o There are always more inquiries than there is the ability to answer because of the lack of utilities, etc.
o The Chair requested that the BOCC members each come and participate in an Advisory Board meeting.
New Business
o Amanda updated the Board on the S.W.O.T. analysis including additional requirements requested by the
BOCC. All the information will be brought back to the Advisory Board. The goal is to be done in October.
o Yvonne updated the Board on the Small Business Grant and Business Loan Programs.
o Steve shared the information on the Growing Small Business booklets produced by Yvonne.
o The Chair requested a representation of the Business Grant programs address the BOCC regarding grant
allocations.
o The Ag Grant funds have been exhausted for the year. There will be an additional $60,000 on July 1, 2017.
o The Ag Summit will be held on February 20th at the Cedar Grove Community Center. The themes will be
Rural Broadband and Bona Fide Farms.
o The Chair requested a change in meeting dates because of the UNC Spring Break
