Halkiotis PURPOSE: To approve plans to recognize the thirteen (13) volunteer fire and rescue departments and the ham radio operators serving Orange County, BACKGROUND: The residents of Orange County are blessed with many highly trained, experienced, and very dedicated volunteer firefighters, ham radio operators, and rescue personnel, These volunteers spend many hours of their time responding to calls and training for this response, This training along with the on-duty time assures Orange County residents that they have the best assistance available when their services are needed. It is proposed that Orange County government honor these volunteers by having the Chief of each organization recognized during a regularly scheduled Board of Commissioners meeting, (October 17~h) and by presenting them with a plaque to be displayed in their individual buildings. Each individual in these departments and their families would also be recognized and honored by inviting them to attend an ice cream social, tentatively scheduled for Sunday, October 22"d from 2-4pm behind the Sheriff's Office (weather permitting), presenting them with a Certificate of Appreciation as well as a small token of the County's appreciation. FINANCIAL IMPACT: The total estimated cost of this recognition is $3,250. $1,500 can be used from Volunteer Recognition Programs line item and the remaining $1,750 could be allocated from the BOCC Contingency, RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board approve these two expressions of Orange County's appreciation to these outstanding volunteers serving Orange County by having a brief recognition ceremony during a regularly scheduled BOCC meeting and by hosting an ice cream social on Sunday, October 22"d from 2-4 pm behind the Sheriff's Office (weather permitting) for both the volunteers and their families. z PUBLIC SAFETY VOLUNTEER DEPARTMENTS L Fire Departments I) Caldwell Fire Department 2) Cedar Grove Fire Deparhnent 3) Efland Fire Department 4) Eno Fire Department 5) New Hope Fire Department 6) Orange Grove Fire Department 7) Orange Rural Fire Department 8) White Cross Fire Department 9) North Chatham Fire Department 10) Mebane Fire Department II.
