HomeMy WebLinkAboutASAB minutes 011812 1 Animal Services Advisory Board Monthly Meeting Summary Wednesday, January 18, 2012 PRESENT: Kris Bergstrand, Chair; Susan Elmore, Bob Marotto, Mike Stewart, Aviva Scully, Sue Millager, Lori Lumpkin, Suzanne Roy, Lynn White, Judy Miller Absent: Donna Bravo Agenda and minutes unanimously adopted as presented. Public Comments: none Partner Profile: Animal Kind presentation by Beth Livingstone, Executive Director, and Hillary Green, Director of Operations. Upcoming Partner Profiles tabled due to time constraints Old Business: ASAB Vacancies • Still trying to recruit a representative for the Town of Hillsborough utilizing county commissioners • Still trying to recruit a representative for the Animal Trainer/Handler through local vets Cat Sheltering Progress Report • Reference memorandum dated January 12, 2012 submitted in ASAB information packet. Standing Committees: Dangerous Dog Appeals • Three cases were heard the last quarter of 2011. Committee report to be included as part of these minutes. Adoption Appeals • None New Business: Nuisance Animal Noises • Bob Marotto presented background information to the Board prior to public statements • Julie Tucker, member of the public, requested ASAB present a proposal to amend the Animal Control Ordinance (written statement to be included as part of these minutes) • David Sykes, member of the public, supported Julie Tucker’s concerns and request for amendment of ordinance 2 • MOTION to create a subcommittee to assess the situation and what recommendation(s) should be made (if any) to county commissioners. Motion seconded, motion approved. o MOTION to appoint Suzanne Roy, Mike Stewart and Judy Miller to subcommittee. Motion seconded, motion approved. Animal Fees • Bob Marotto presented proposal to create new fees and/or increase existing fees at the Animal Shelter • MOTION to approve proposed animal fees with removal of resident surrenders, clarification of wording to footnote #2 and 3, and definition of stray. Motion seconded, motion approved with two dissenting votes exempting seniors from pet tax waiver. 2012 Spay and Neuter Day Resolution • MOTION to support and approve resolution as submitted in meeting information packet. Additional New Business: Coyote Alert • Member of ASAB requested consideration of coyote alert in Orange County. o Bob Marotto to request newspaper write an article to raise awareness of coyotes in the area and dangers they pose MOTION to adjourn at 9:10.
