ASAB Affairs
(A) BOCC Discussion of ASAB Progress Report and Work Plan
Michelle Walker shared a letter from the Board of County Commissioners and reported back
from the March 19, 2015 Work Session, specifically regarding the importance of agriculture in
Orange County
(B) Meeting Schedule – the Board reviewed the meeting schedule for the remainder of the year
(C) Outside Agency review
Maureane Hoffman summarized the application from Piedmont Wildlife Center Inc. for its
Elementary School Environmental Education Program
Old Business
(A) Sunsetting the Free-Roaming Cat Task Force
Because all goals and deliverables have been met, the Task Force was closed
New Business
(A) Animal Services Updates—Bob Marotto
The Unified Animal Ordinance went before the Carrboro Board of Aldermen on April 7, 2015
as a discussion item. The Aldermen expressed support for unification and expressed a
desire for representatives of the community of origin to serve in the body conducting appeal
proceedings. Chapel Hill approved the Unified Animal Ordinance by consent on April 14,
2015.
Bob Marotto provided various Animal Services updates, including regarding coyote reports
and staffing
(B) More About Pets for Life Locally and in Comparable Communities—Michael Haskins and Adam
Wright, Non-Profit Fellows, UNC-CH Kenan-Flagler Business School

Michael Haskins and Adam Wright gave a presentation regarding their research into the
Pets for Life program and the potential for implementation in Orange County. The
presentation highlighted the benefits of relationship building in targeted underserved
communities and provided suggestions for implementation, including a demographic
study for potential target areas and ideas for short-term implementation.
