Mr. Carey is the highly regarded general manager of the Siena Hotel in Chapel Hill, and is now the new Economic Development advisory board's member serving in the hotel/restaurant &tourism sector. On May 16, 2017 the Orange County Board of Commissioners voted to appoint Anthony Carey as the Orange County Economic Development Advisory Board's liaison to the Chapel Hill/Orange County Visitors Bureau advisory board. That action temporarily filled an open seat on the Visitors Bureau board, for a term that will be ending in December of this year. On behalf of Jim Kitchen, Chair of the Orange County Economic Advisory Board, and with his approval received, I would now like to ask the Board of County Commissioners to reappoint Anthony Carey to his first three-year term as the Economic Development advisory board's liaison to the Visitors Bureau's advisory board, thereby continuing in his current role serving in that manner. Mr. Carey is also a former member and Chair of the Visitors Bureau board from previous years of volunteer service, and has great experience to contribute. Thank you for your considerations of this action. Sincerely, e4-1VSteve Brantley Director, Orange County Econ mic Development 131 W. Boards/Commissions applied for: Chapel Hill/Orange County Visitors Bureau Background, education and experience relevant to this board: I have a strong commitment to community service, including 8 years on the Chapel Hill Town Council, 6 of them as mayor. In 2012-2013 I co-chaired the Chapel Hill 2020 process, a highly inclusive citizen visioning process that led to adoption of a new comprehensive plan in Chapel Hill. I have also served on the boards of OWASA, the Chapel Hill-Carrboro YMCA, Chapel Hill Housing Authority, regional Transportation Planning group (MPO), Chamber of Commerce and various special purpose committees working for the Town of Chapel Hill and the local school system. My habit is to prepare for meetings, attend regularly, and participate. Reasons for wanting to serve on this board: For a long time I have admired the professionalism and the positive contribution of our visitors program. It has been and remains one of our very best efforts in economic development. The visitors program is extremely important to the local economy and I very much want it to thrive and diversify as market conditions evolve. I was a point person in getting approvals for the new Southern Village Hyatt Place, which we will start construction on later this year. I will be working with the hotel during construction and after operations begin, though I will not be involved in marketing the hotel. However, I do have marketing experience which I would love to bring to the Visitors Bureau board. 13 Page 2 of 2 Rosemary Waldorf Conflict of Interest: Supplemental Questions: Other Comments: This application was current on: 9/24/2014 12:34:44 PM Date Printed: 9/24/2014 14 Page 1 of 1 David Brooks Volunteer Application Orange County Advisory Boards and Commissions Name: David Brooks Name Called: Home Address: 9239 hester rd hurdle mills NC 27541 Phone (Day): 919-949-0351 Phone (Evening): 919-949-0351' Phone (Cell): 919-949-0351 Email: ddbcustoms @aol.com Place of Employment: self employed Job Title: polo instructor and club manager Year of OC Residence: 1976 Township of Residence: Cedar Grove Zone of Residence: Sex: Male Ethnic Background: Caucasian Community Activities/Organizational Memberships: Little River Presbyterian Church Orange FFA alumni association NC Horse Council BOD Past Service on Orange County Advisory Boards: none Boards/Commissions applied for: Chapel Hill/Orange County Visitors Bureau Background, education and experience relevant to this board: I have traveled to many places in the US and other countries in mu business. Ultimately, I would like to see Orange County to develop a new body, separate from currently existing ones, that approaches arts, culture, festivals, and the creative industries (web design, architecture, metal work, app development, and etc)totally from the business and economic development perspective. Conflict of Interest: Possible perception. CH/OCCVB does not fund ArtsCenter activities. Occasionally, however, the CVB includes our events among several in its ad buys.
