Winning the 2017 State Championship

PURPOSE: To recognize the Carrboro High School Women's Volleyball Team for winning the
2017 State Championship.
BACKGROUND: The Carrboro High School Women's Volleyball Team won the state 2A title
on November 4, 2017 to complete a perfect season with 31 victories and no losses. It is the
second state title for the team, having won its first title last year. The team extended its winning
streak to 61 games. The team is led by Head Coach Steve Scanga.
FINANCIAL IMPACT: There is no financial impact associated with this proclamation.
SOCIAL JUSTICE IMPACT: There is no Orange County Social Justice Goal impact associated
with this item.
RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board approve and authorize the
Chair to sign a proclamation recognizing the Carrboro High School Women's Volleyball Team
and Coach Steve Scanga for winning the 2017 State Championship and the players and
coaches for representing the community with the highest ideals of sportsmanship and integrity.

PROCLAMATION OF RECOGNITION ON
CARRBORO HIGH SCHOOL WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL TEAM
WINNING THE 2017 STATE CHAMPIONSHIP
WHEREAS, on November 4, 2017, the Carrboro High School Women's
Volleyball Team captured the North Carolina High School Athletic
Association's (NCHSAA) 2A State Championship; and
WHEREAS, under the guidance of Coach Steve Scanga, the Carrboro High
School Women's Volleyball Team earned its second consecutive
NCHSAA title; and
WHEREAS, the Lady Jaguars completed the season with a 31-0 record, extending
their winning streak to 61 matches; and
WHEREAS, the Lady Jaguars brought honor upon themselves, Carrboro High
School, the Chapel Hill/Carrboro City Schools District and Orange
County;
NOW, THEREFORE, be it proclaimed that the Orange County Board of
Commissioners expresses its sincere appreciation and respect to the
Carrboro High School Women's Volleyball Team and Coach Steve
Scanga for the Jaguars' outstanding achievement and their
inspiration to youth across North Carolina through their dedication,
teamwork, and athletic prowess.
