ORANGE COUNTY
Economic Development
Commission
June 8, 2006
Donna Baker
Clerk to the Commissioners
P.O. Box 8181
Hillsborough, NC 27278
Dear Donna:
As you know, the Orange County Economic Development Commission has several
vacancies, While there are many seemingly qualified candidates, we respectfully
request consideration of the following individuals far appointment:
• Lilyn Hester- Lilyn previous served two full terms on the EDC and was
one of our most diligent meeting attendees and supporters. Her youth
and enthusiasm were infectious and we'd like to have that again.
• Chris Hagan - We have been holding open a slot for a farmer since Russ
Seibert's health forced his retirement. Chris was a member of the Ag
Center Work Group and is an effective advocate for farming in Orange
County.
• Tony McKnight -Tony works for the Regional Partnership Workforce
Development Board as a Business Specialist serving Orange County.
His duties include meeting regularly with local businesses to assess their
workforce needs and he would bring good information to our attention..
• Jim Evans -Jim is currently a commercial lender with Harrington Bank..
Previously, Jim worked with the Rural Center micro lending program, His
expertise in operating a revolving loan program would be invaluable as
we revive the Orange County Small Business Loan Program.
These recommended individuals would all be filling at-large slots; Chris Hogan would fill
the vacant farmer position and the other three would replace two resigned members
(Susan Lombardo and Ruffin Slater) and Eric Tillman, whose term ends June 30,
Thank you for your consideration,
Sincerely,
c~-~~

My affection for Chapel Hill evolved during my college years here. It wasn't the students,
necessarily or the nightlife. Instead it was the town, neighborhoods, and the small
business owners and everything else that distinguishes Chapel Hill. My primary purpose
in wanting to serve on the Historic Preservation Commission is that I have an
tanderstanding of the needs as well as the constraints that must be imposed in such an
area/ I grew up in Salisbury NC in the historic district and I have also lived in Greensville
South Carolina in a historic district there. During my tenure in college I was a member of
the Ginghaul Castle, so I know that neighborhood as well. This is something that I would
pursue with good faith efforts to improve the town as much as possible. As a side note, I

Other Comments:
As a resident of Orange County, I am very concerned about the economic development
of the county.. I believe that the county needs to attract high quality jobs -- other than
those at UNC -- in order to mitigate the tax burden on the county residents, I believe that
if this is not done, Orange county will turn into an elitist county where only the upper
middle class can aford to live. STAFF COMMENTS: Originally applied for EDG.
ADDRESS VERIFICATION: 100 Robert Hunt Dr is in Ghapel Hill Township in the
Carrboro City Limits.
As an individual wha has reaped the benefits of high quality jobs, I know what these
organizations are looking far and how to get them to move to Orange county. I also
believe that Orange County can attract quality firms and jobs with the result being an
improvement in the quality of life for ALL cotunty residents.
