PURPOSE: To consider awarding a bid to Triangle Equipment Company of Morrisville, North Carolina
for a Skid Steer (Bobcat) loader and Attachments far Recreation.
BACKGROUND: On April 18, 2006, the Board approved the purchase County equipment and vehicles
including askid-steer loader. Often referred to as a Bobcat, a skid-steer loader is a versatile and useful
piece of equipment. While it is similar to a tractor, it is smaller and can easily access smaller areas.
Staff plan to use its buckets to dig holes, grade and fill small areas, load topsoil, sand and fertilizer into
the top dresser, spread gravel, plant trees, etc. The pole hole digger attachment will facilitate the task of
sign and fence post installation. The stump grinder will enable the removal of stumps and other trail
hazards at Little River and throughout parks. All of this will reduce the need to contract with outside
vendors, thereby reducing the County's casts for any given project.
Specifications were developed for a Skid Steer Loader plus the following attachments.
• 48" Pallet Forks With Teeth
• Auger Drive Unit Complete, with 18" & 30" Tree Planting Bits
• Stump Grinder
• 68" Combination Bucket
• 80" 6 Way Dozer Blade
• High Flow Chipper
The bid was sent to seven firms, and advertised on the County website. Triangle Equipment of
Morrisville, North Carolina submitted the only bid at a total delivered price of $39,926 for a Bobcat S205
Loader and attachments. This price represents the contract pricing Triangle offers to State Agencies
through Purchase and Contract.
FINANCIAL IMPACT: The bid totals $39,926. Since staff plans to use this equipment for certain
projects at Little River Park as well as for other Orange County projects. Durham County has agreed to
pay for one-sixth of the purchase price ($6,654). With this contribution from Durham County, Orange
County's share of the cast totals $33,272.

As indicated earlier in this abstract, this piece of equipment was included in the equipment-financing
package approved by the Board on April 18, 2006. The Equipment and Vehicles Capital Project
Ordinance was updated with the funding approval on April 18; therefore no further action with regard to
funding the equipment is required of the Board at this time,
RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board award a bid to Triangle Equipment
Company of Morrisville, North Carolina for a total of $39,926 and authorize the Purchasing Director to
execute the necessary paperwork
