PURPOSE: To consider a proposed Community Advisory Committee that would advise the
Board of Commissioners and County Management on SportsPlex operations
BACKGROUND: Now that Orange County owns the SportsPlex facility, it has been suggested
that the County establish a Community Advisory Committee to be the conduit far advice,
feedback, and suggestions from the public to the Board and Manager's Office.
A draft proposal is attached for consideration.
FINANCIAL IMPACT: No director immediate cost is associated with creating the proposed
Community Advisory Committee.
RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board discuss the proposed
Orange County SportsPlex Community Advisory Committee and provide direction to staff.

Community Advisory Committee

To serve in an advisory capacity to the BOCC and County Management on
community issues and interests concerning the SportsPlex facility
To be a conduit to the BOCC and County Management for questions,
suggestions, special requests, and other items that emerge from the community
about SportsPlex operations
To help promote the SportsPlex as a vital resource for all residents, and assist in
creating positive connections with partners and stakeholders throughout the
county
Examples of areas for input/feedback, include but are not limited to: Customer
Satisfaction, Membership Rates/Participant Fees, Operating Hours, Community
Use, Parking, Physical Upkeep, Food Service, and Program Options
The BOCC retains final decision-making authority on financial and budgetary
considerations.

A total of 12 Orange County residents, appointed for 2-year terms
Advisory Board on Aging - 1 representative
Recreation & Parks Advisory Committee - 1 representative
Cooperative Extension Advisory Group - 1 representative
Orange County Employee Consortium - 1 representative
Orange County Schools (Student Health/ Athletics) - 1 representative
Chapel Hill Carrbaro City Schools (Student Health/Athletics) - 1 representative
Community Members - 6 representatives, at-large (Solicit nominations/
applications from the public)
A Chair and Vice Chair to be selected from within the body.

To meet once each quarter, or more frequently as needs may dictate
