SUBJECT: Recognition of Orange County Rescue Squad, Inc. Volunteers

PURPOSE: To recognize the efforts of the volunteers of the Orange County Rescue Squad,
Inc, who have received the Lifetime Presidential Volunteer Service Award.
BACKGROUND: The Orange County Rescue Squad, Incorporated is a valued emergency
services provider within Orange County whose membership has received state certification as a
Heavy Rescue Technician provider. The department has completed the necessary training and
acquired the necessary equipment to become aState-certified Heavy Technical Rescue
Provider with North Carolina Association of EMS and Rescue, Twenty individual members
have also received special recognition for their efforts in total volunteer hours, having achieved
more than 4,000 hours of volunteer service each to the citizens of Orange County.
The completion of the Heavy Rescue Technician Provider training program shows that the
recipient of the certification has demonstrated proficiency and can perform the following tasks to
help preserve the lives of those encountered in these situations: heavy extrications involving
tractor-trailers or heavy vehicles; conducting one or more advanced rescues simultaneously;
and extrications involving 2 or more hydraulic Hurst tools, This certification also requires an
investment of a minimum of 8 certified Rescue Technicians by the organization to receive this
certification,
Individuals listed on the attached raster from Orange County Rescue Squad, Incorporated have
received the Lifetime Presidential Volunteer Service Award, This recognizes and honors
volunteers, encourages a sustained commitment to civic participation, and inspires others to
make volunteering a central part of their lives. The Lifetime President's Volunteer Service
Award is a Presidential recognition program for Americans of all ages, who contribute a
significant amount of time to volunteer service. The program recognizes individuals, families,
and groups that have achieved a certain standard -measured by the number of hours served
over a 12-month period and during their lives as volunteers,
FINANCIAL IMPACT: There is no financial impact associated with this recognition of volunteer
service,
RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board recognize the
membership of Orange County Rescue Squad, Incorporated for their success in receiving the
Heavy Technical Rescue Provider Certification, and specifically honor the twenty members who
have received the Lifetime Presidential Volunteer Service Award,
