HomeMy WebLinkAboutAgenda - 04-10-2006 - 6dORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT Meeting Date: April 10, 2006 Action Age Item No. SUBJECT: Community Advisory Committee Appreciation Day -April 26, 2006 DEPARTMENT: Aging, Nursing Home and PUBLIC HEARING: (Y/N) No Adult Care Home Advisory Committees (CACs) ATTACHMENT(S): INFORMATION CONTACT: Proclamation Jill Passmore, LTC Ombudsman, 423-1444 03/11 /06 Letter to BOCC Jerry Passmore, 245-2009 Laura DeLoye, Chair, Adult Care Home CAC Mary Ann Peter, Chair, Nursing Home CAC PURPOSE: To consider approving a proclamation to show appreciation to the members of the Orange County Nursing Home and Adult Care Home Community Advisory Committees for their advocacy efforts on behalf of the County's long term care residents, BACKGROUND: Nursing Home and Adult Care Home Community Advisory Committees, whose members are appointed by the BOCC, serve as grassroots ombudsmen and advocate for the rights of long term care residents, as well as the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being of these residents, Over 900 residents reside in nursing homes and adult care homes in Orange County, The Triangle J Area Agency on Aging Ombudsman Program is holding a Community Advisory Committee Education and Appreciation Day for the dedicated volunteers of Orange County (and other counties in the Triangle J region) on April 26, 2006, at the Friday Center. A copy of the proclamation of appreciation will be given to each member of the Community Advisory Committees. FINANCIAL IMPACT: None. RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board approve the proclamation designating the day of April 26, 2006 as Community Advisory Committee Appreciation Day in Orange County and authorize the Chair to sign the proclamation, ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS A PROCLAMATION COMMUNITY ADVISORY COMMITTEE APPRECIATION DAY APRIL 26, 2006 Whereas, Nursing Homes and Adult Care Homes have accepted the responsibility for providing long term care health services to the citizens of our community, and Whereas, Over 900 residents reside in long term care facilities in Orange County, and Whereas, The quality of care and quality of life of long term care residents depend upon the daily, conscientious services and hands-on care provided by long term care facility staff, as well as the honoring of federal and state Residents' Bill of Rights, and Whereas, Nursing Home and Adult Care Home Community Advisory Committees, whose members are appointed by the Board of County Commissioners to serve as grassroots ombudsmen and advocate for the rights of residents, as well as the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being of these residents, and Whereas, Nursing Home and Adult Care Home Community Advisory Committees are trained volunteers who collaborate closely with residents, family members, facility staff, the Long Term Care Ombudsman Program, the Orange County Department on Aging, and regulatory agencies to ensure quality care in full recognition of residents' dignity and individuality, and Whereas, These Committees serve as the nucleus for increased community involvement with long term care facilities and their residents, and Whereas, The Committees promote community education and awareness of the needs of long term care residents, and work toward keeping the public informed about aspects of long term care, and Whereas, The committees apprise themselves of the general conditions under which residents are residing in the homes, and work for the best interests of these residents, Now, Therefore, we, the Orange County Commissioners, do hereby proclaim April 26, 2006 as Community Advisory Committee Appreciation Day And urge all residents to join with us in this observation. We further encourage all residents to express appreciation for the advocacy efforts of the Nursing Home and Adult Care Home Community Advisory Committee members who represent the public good for Orange County. As you are aware, Nursing Home and Adult Care Home Conununity Advisory Conunittees are appointed by the Board of County Conunissioners to serve as grassroots ombudsmen and advocate for the rights of long term care residents, as well as the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being of these residents. The Triangle .J Area Agency on Aging Ombudsman Program is holding a Community Advisory Committee Education and Appreciation Day for the dedicated volunteers of Orange County (and other counties in our region) on April 26, 2006, at the Friday Center, and hope to provide this proclamation of appreciation to each member of the Community Advisory Committees for their remarkable advocacy efforts on behalf of your county's long term care residents. Would you be willing to adopt Apri126, 2006 as Community Advisory Committee Appreciation Day and authorize the chair to sign the proclamation? You generously provided such proclamations in 2002 and the Conunittee members were tluilled to receive the recognition from the county..
