HomeMy WebLinkAboutS Proclamation designating the week of May 12 - May 18, 2002 as Senior Center Week ti 1 ■ 3 1 ORANGE COUNTY BOARD O CONMISSIONERS PR OCLAIL4 TI SENIOR CENTER WEEK WHEREAS, Local communities supper over 12,000 Senior Centers in the United States, and, WHEREAS, Orange County has recognized the importance of Senior cntcrs and has provided leadership in the development and operations of such fatiiities in the County, and WHEREAS, Senior Ccntcrs affirm the dignity, 6elf worth and indtund nce of older pins by facilitating their decisions and knowledge, and enabling their continued contribution to the community, and, WHEREAS, Encouraged and supported by the Older America Act, Senior Centers function as service delivery focal points, help older persons to help themselves and each ulbera . . and offer opportunities to become physically active, mentally challenged, emotionally supported and socially my Dived, aria, WHEREAS, The month of May has hiEturically been proclaimed Older Americans Month, and communities across the country are giving special recognition to older persons and the role of Senior Centers in serving them NOW, THEREFORE, We, the Orange County Board of Cornmissioncrs, do herby PROCLAIM the week of May 12 through May 18, 2002 as SENIOR CENSER WEEK AND, Further, do call upon the people of Orange County to honor older Americans and the SenioT Centers that bring together activities and sic 10 their benefit Barry Jacobs, Chair O Orange may Board of Commissioners
