PURPOSE: To provide notice of the Board of County Commissioners' plans to hold a public
hearing on April x-818, 2006 on potential items for inclusion in Orange County's legislative
agenda package for the 2006 North Carolina General Assembly Session.- and to change the
County Commissioners' regular meeting calendar for year 2006 to cancel the joint
leaislative breakfast for the BOCC and Orange Gounty's legislative deleaation scheduled
for April 24, 2006.
BACKGROUND: The Board of County Commissioners is asked to schedule a public hearing
on ~iler~day Tuesday, April a-9'18, 2006 at 7:30 p.m. ~^ +ho ~ ~nr,~nn R.,++~o rn,,.+rnnm ,++h
at the Southern Human Services Center in Chapel Hill, North
Carolina. The purpose of the public hearing will be to receive public comments on potential
items for inclusion in Orange County's legislative agenda package for the 2006 North Carolina
General Assembly Session.
The Chair, Vice Chair, and County staff are reviewing items for possible inclusion in Orange
County's legislative package. Information on the proposed items will be provided to the BOCC
and others prior to the April x-918 meeting.

It is also proposed that the Board change the County Commissioners' regular meeting
- --calendar for near 2006 to cancel the joint legislative breakfast for the BOCC and Orange
County's legislative deleaation scheduled for April 24, 2006.

FINANCIAL IMPACT: Any funds necessary to provide the public notice are included in the
Clerk to the Board's budget for the current year.
RECOMMENDATION(S): The County Manager recommends that the Board direct the Clerk to
the Board and the County Manager, on behalf of the Board of Commissioners, publish a notice
of the Board's intent to hold a public hearing on April x-918, 2006 at 7:30 p.m. ~^ +"° ~. ~^r~^^
at the Southern Human Services Center
in Chapel Hill, North Carolina to receive public comments on potential items for inclusion in
Orange County's legislative agenda package for the 2006 North Carolina General Assembly
