PURPOSE: To consider a proclamation recognizing the Orange High School Softball Team for
winning the 2017 State Championship.
BACKGROUND: On June 3, 2017, Orange High School's Softball Team captured the North
Carolina High School Athletic Association's (NCHSAA) 3A State Softball Championship.
Under the guidance of Coach Eddie Davidson, Orange High School's Softball Team earned its
first NCHSAA State title, the first state championship by a female team in Orange High history.
FINANCIAL IMPACT: There is no financial impact associated with consideration of this
proclamation.
SOCIAL JUSTICE IMPACT: There are no Orange County Social Justice goals applicable to
this item.
RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board approve the attached
proclamation recognizing Orange High School's Softball Team for winning the 2017 State
Championship and authorize the Chair to sign the proclamation on behalf of the Board.

PROCLAMATION OF RECOGNITION ON
ORANGE HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL TEAM
WINNING THE 2017 STATE CHAMPIONSHIP
WHEREAS, on June 3, 2017, the Orange High School Softball Team captured the
North Carolina High School Athletic Association's (NCHSAA) 3A
State Softball Championship; and
WHEREAS, under the guidance of Coach Eddie Davidson, the Orange High
School Softball Team earned its first NCHSAA State title, the first
state championship by a female team in Orange High history; and
WHEREAS, the Lady Panthers completed the season with a 26-3 record; and
WHEREAS, through hard work, dedication, teamwork, and commitment, the
Lady Panthers brought honor upon themselves, Orange High School,
the Orange County School District, and Orange County;
NOW, THEREFORE, be it proclaimed that the Orange County Board of
Commissioners expresses its sincere appreciation and respect for the
Orange High School Softball Team and Coach Davidson, for the
Panthers' outstanding achievement, and their inspiration to youth
across North Carolina through their dedication, teamwork, and
athletic prowess.
