PURPOSE: To hear from Board appointees to external boards and encourage a better line of
communication between the Board and its representatives to the various external advisory
boards.
BACKGROUND: The Board had suggested in 2014 to invite County appointed advisory board
representatives to external boards to a work session in order to give these appointees an
opportunity to provide updates/concerns on issues they believe should be brought to the
Board's attention related to their advisory board service. It is in everyone's best interest to
improve communication with these Orange County representatives, and to better coordinate
their work for the betterment of the County. These appointees have been solicited to submit
updates, concerns, and suggestions ahead of time, if they wish, but none were received. The
appointees have also been invited to address the Board at this meeting. The item's purpose is
to gain a better line of communication between the Board and its appointees to external
advisory boards.

SOCIAL JUSTICE IMPACT: The following Orange County Social Justice Goal is applicable to
this item:
• GOAL: ENABLE FULL CIVIC PARTICIPATION
Ensure that Orange County residents are able to engage government through voting and
volunteering by eliminating disparities in participation and barriers to participation.
RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board receive any presentations,
discuss and provide direction as needed to the appointees and/or staff.
