PURPOSE: To consider awarding a bid to Prince Fencing Company of Durham, North Carolina
for construction of fencing at the West Ten Soccer Complex (Phase I of project).
BACKGROUND: At the May 15, 2007 BOCC meeting, a contract was awarded for the
construction of five full size playing fields and one smaller field. At that time the Board was
advised that additional contracts for fencing and other site improvements would be brought to
the Board for approval. This action, if approved, will award a contract to construct a fence
around the Soccer Complex.
Bids for fencing were advertised on the County website, and were sent to eight contractors.
Bids were received on June 7, 2007 with two bidders responding. A tabulation of the bids is
attached. Prince Fencing Company of Durham, North Carolina submitted the lowest
responsible bid that was responsive at a total cost of $115,520. The architects estimate for this
project was $125,000. Contractors who chose not to bid cited workload and distance as
reasons for choosing not to bid.
The project will consist of approximately 4,000 linear feet of 10 foot high chain link fence around
the area identified in the master plan, 1,500 linear feet of 4 foot high chain link fence around the
ends of the soccer fields, two vehicle gates and two pedestrian gates.
FINANCIAL IMPACT: Funding from the 2001 Parks and Open Space Bond is appropriated in
previous budgets to cover the amount of this contract.
RECOMMENDATION (S): The Manager recommends that the Board award a bid to Prince
Fencing Company of Durham, North Carolina for an amount not to exceed $115,520; and
authorize the Purchasing Director to execute paperwork as may be required.
