The Board of County CommSSSioner met on tde rch 7, 1955 ir• the Commissi oner's~
room, members present Chairman R. J. G1. Hobbs, Commissioners SSm EIIand,
Edwin Lanier, Dwight Ray and henry '17a1ker, members absent none. E1lnut es of
the Februe ry meeting were read by the Cle rte end approved by the Board.

ordered that the petition dated February 25, 1955, from the Chapel 6i11
Parent-Teachers' Assn. asking the County Commissioners to call a county
election on the establishment of AHC stores within Orange County be denied.
tAr. Edwin Lynch, Clerk of Court, reported on the court tines and
court cost for t'n.e month of r^ebrua ry.

court reporters position in. Orange County if the County would agree to pay
her ,°x100 per week plus $30.00 per week for expenses,

listed on the tax books. ntr. Gatos also requested funds to pay the sale rS of
secretary who would check the registered list against the tax books. The

Upon motion of Commissioner gay, seconded by Commissioner Ffia nd, and
unanlnopsly passed, St was ordered that Mr. Gott Ss proceed with the purchase
of said registered list and the hiring of the ezt ra help Tor the above stated
Mr. Adams, representative of Coloni¢1 Life Accident Insurance Co. ask
for perml ssion to sell the county employees s group accident policy and also
requested permission for Mr. GattSs to make the necessary salary
deductions fez those enp loyees des Sring said insurance.
Upon mo tl on of Commissioner Ray, seconded by Commissioner 1YSlker, it was
o rd ored that if M1lr. Adams could secure 10 persons wanting acc lde nt Snsurance
then Mr. Gatos would be authorized to ma'.~e the xIIrtk3g salary deductions
for said Insurance.
IIpon motion of Commissioner Lania r, seconded by Commissioner Efland
and Commissioner tYalker, end unanimously Hess ed, it was ordered, that a copy
of the following resolutl on be sent to Rep. Sohn Ums teed and Senator Hal ph
Scott:
"Ha It Resolved First, that The Hoard of County Coimnissi one rs of Orange
County is opposed to that section of the achoel bill now before the General
Assembly which makes St mandatory to la vy the maximum amount of suool ementary
taxes authorized by the voters Sn special ale etlons, S.n aoi to of property
revaluations by the County, because we believe it unwise to divide the
tax-levying and tax apnropi ra ti ng authority of the Hoard of County Commission
Second, that thin Board, therefore, urges Rap res antatSve John Yl. Ums tesd
and Senator Ralph H, Scott to oppose enactment of the proposal."
