PURPOSE: To consider renewing a lease with the Efland Rescue Unit/Efland Volunteer Fire
Company.
BACKGROUND: In July,1985 Orange County entered into an agreement with the Efland Rescue
UnitNolunteer Fire Company to use the Efland Rescue Unit Building for a sum of $1.00 per year.
One EMS ambulance is based at this location.
Both parties are desirous that this lease arrangement should continue. The lease term being
proposed will be through June 30, 1998. In order to allow flexibility for both parties, a
ninety (90) day termination clause has been included on the renewal.
RECOMMENDATION: The Manager recommends that the lease be renewed through June 30, 1998;
and the Chair be authorized to sign on behalf of the Board.

Whereas, a lease agreement was made and entered into as of the 5th day of July, 1985 by
and between Efland Rescue Unit and Efland Volunteer Fire Company, Inc.,LESSOR, Party of the First
Part, and Orange County, LESSEE, Party of the Second Part, for premises known as the Efland
Rescue Unit Building in Efland, North Carolina.
Whereas, the LESSOR and the LESSEE mutually agree to the following:
1. The lease agreement will be continued for a period of five (5)years, to commence at
12:01 a.m. on July 1, 1993 and terminate at 12:00 midnight on June 30, 1998.
2. The County will continue to insure the building at replacement cost.
3. Lessor or Lessee may terminate this lease upon ninety (90) days written notice to
other.
4. All other terms and conditions remain the same.
This agreed to the 29th day of June, 1993.
