E.M.S. week Proclamation TELEPHONE NUMBERS: Hillsborough - 732-8181 Durham - 688-7331 Mebane - 227-2031 Chapel Hill - 967-9251/968-4501 PURPOSE: To proclaim the week of May 23 through May 29, 1993 as Emergency Medical Services week in Orange County. BACKGROUND: As in the past the governor has proclaimed May 23 through May 29, 1993 as Emergency Medical Services week in North Carolina to bring recognition to the paid and volunteer members of the Emergency Medical Services system. The Emergency Medical Services Program of Orange County is one of the top programs in the State of North Carolina. This complex system consists of the following components: 1) County Staff 2) Orange County Rescue Squad volunteers 3) South Orange Rescue Squad volunteers 4) Law Enforcement Officers 5) Nurses and Doctors from UNC Hospital 6) Fire First Responders from 8 volunteer fire departments and 2 municipalities. The county emergency medical providers will kick-off the week by having displays and demonstrations for the citizens . Plans include having educational news articles in the local papers explaining the E.M.S. system components and how to access. RECOMMENDATION: The Manager recommends that the Board proclaim the week of May 23 through May 29, 1993 as Emergency Medical Services Week in Orange County. 2 A PROCLAMATION EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES WEEK MAY 23 THROUGH MAY 29, 1993 WHEREAS, Governor James Hunt has proclaimed the week of May 23 through May 29, 1993, as Emergency Medical Services Week in North Carolina, and WHEREAS, The Emergency Medical Service in Orange County is a complex system involving Telecommunicators, Fire First Responders, Law Enforcement Officers, Nurses, Doctors, County Staff and Volunteers from Orange County and South Orange Rescue Squads, and WHEREAS, These people must attend many hours of specialized training in addition to hours of service provided, and WHEREAS, They place themselves in peril as they respond quickly and efficiently to provide emergency assistance to the sick and injured in Orange County, and WHEREAS, The citizens of the County have supported the E.M.S. service through both taxes and donations, and WHEREAS, The Orange County Board of Commissioners publicly acknowledge their support and appreciation to all the members of the Orange County Emergency Medical Services System, NOW THEREFORE, The Orange County Board of Commissioners hereby proclaim the week of May 23 through 29, 1993, as EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES WEEK and encourage all citizens of Orange County to continue to support their E.M.S. system.
