PURPOSE: To establish public hearing dates to receive citizen
comments regarding development of a 1993 Community
Development Block Grant Application.
BACKGROUND: The N.C. Department of Commerce (DEC) has announced the
availability of Community Development Block Grant (CDBG)
funds to local governments. Applications are due May 28,
1993 and a locality may apply for up to $600, 000 in
funding. Last year the County submitted an unsuccessful
CDBG application for a neighborhood in the Efland
community.
Further, DEC requires potential applicants to conduct a
public hearing to obtain citizen's comments regarding
potential community development target areas at the
beginning of the application process. Applicants are also
required to conduct a public hearing after the application
has been drafted in order to receive additional comments
prior to application submission.
Therefore, the Housing and Community Development staff is
requesting that April 20, 1993 and May 18, 1993 be
established as the public hearing dates to receive citizen
comments as described above. Notices will be published in
the appropriate news media to encourage community-wide
participation.
RECOMMENDATION(S) :
The Manager recommends establishing April 20, 1993 and May
18, 1993 as public hearing dates to receive citizen
comments regarding the development of a 1993 Community
Development Block Grant Application.
