PURPOSE : To receive a report from County Attorney Geof Gledhill and
discuss matters pertaining to local legislative initiatives that the
Board may want to present to the 1993 Session of the General Assembly .
BACKGROUND: Each year , the Board of Commissioners discusses any
legislative matters that the County may want to present for
introduction by the Orange County legislative delegation to the North
Carolina General Assembly . The Legislature has established a number of
deadlines for submission of certain categories of proposed legislation ,
including an April 1 deadline for drafting of local bills .
The County Attorney will make a brief oral report on legislative
amendments needed regarding the County' s authority to enact a Human
Rights Ordinance, and will respond to Board questions or comments about
other potential legislation.
RECOMMENDATION: The Manager recommends that the Board receive the
report and provide direction to the Manager and Attorney regarding any
legislative initiatives the Board may want to pursue .
