PURPOSE: To recognize Sheriff Lindy Pendergrass for initiating
a cost-savings measure by proposing a change to the
holiday pay policy.
BACKGROUND: At the January 4, 1993 Board of Commissioners meeting,
the Board adopted a revised holiday pay policy which
will result in significant cost-savings (estimated at
approximately $50,000 to $75,000 annually in the
Sheriff ' s Department and in EMS) . Sheriff Pendergrass
initiated the proposal to change the policy.
A management team made up of Sheriff Pendergrass, EMS
Director Nick Waters, Public Works Director Wilbert
McAdoo and Budget and Personnel staff developed the
proposed Holiday Pay Personnel Ordinance revision
which was adopted by the Board and now is in place
effective January 1, 1993.
The Board has indicated its desire to recognize
employees for making cost-savings suggestions and,
specifically to recognize Sheriff Pendergrass for his
holiday pay cost saving suggestion.
RECOMMENDATION: The Manager recommends that the Board adopt the
Resolution of Appreciation recognizing Sheriff
Pendergrass.

RESOLUTION OF APPRECIATION
for
SHERIFF LINDY PENDERGRASS
WHEREAS, Sheriff Lindy Pendergrass has been the elected
Sheriff of Orange County since 1982, and
WHEREAS, Under his successful leadership Orange County has
developed a strong, dedicated and effective law
enforcement team, and
WHEREAS, The Sheriff, recognizing the costs of maintaining a
well-trained and effective team initiated a cost-
savings measure, and
WHEREAS, The cost-savings suggestion made by the Sheriff to
amend the holiday pay policy has provided benefit to
employees, and will result in significant cost-
savings to Orange County.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that, we, the Orange County
Board of Commissioners, recognize and appreciate Sheriff
Pendergrass for his cost-saving contributions to Orange
County, and we furthermore express gratitude for his
continued service in protecting the safety and welfare of
Orange County citizens.
