PURPOSE: To consider three changes in the County Commissioners' regular meeting
calendar for year 2007.
BACKGROUND: Pursuant to North Carolina General Statute 153A-40, the Board of County
Commissioners must fix the time and place of its meetings or provide a notice of any change in
the Regular Meeting Schedule.
The Board will consider amending its regular meeting calendar by changing
the locations of the 2 Budget Public Hearings -scheduled for May 31 St and
June 4t"and re-scheduling the Clerk's evaluation to a later date in June:
• Consider moving the May 31St Budget Public Hearing, at 7:30 p.m.,
from the F. Gordon Battle Courtroom~to the Superior Courtroom
(upstairs from the F. Gordon Battle Courtroom), 106 East Margaret
Lane in Hillsborough; and
• Consider moving the June 4t" Budget Public Hearing at 7:30 p.m.
from the Southern Human Services Center to the Sonya Haynes
Stone Center for Black Culture and History, 150 South Road, UNC,
Chapel Hill, N.C. (rental fee has been waived); and
• Consider moving the Clerk to the Board's evaluation from June 4t"
Southern Human Services Center to Monday, June 18 at 5:30 p.m.
at Government Services Center in Hillsborough, NC' (prior to Budget
Work Session at 7:30 p.m.)
FINANCIAL IMPACT: The rental fee of $250 for the Stone Center has been waived. There
may be minimal costs associated with the hiring of a campus Public Safety Officer ($35/hr) to
ensure the presence of security during the event and to secure the building after the event.
However, the Clerk's office has been in contact with the Orange County Sheriff's office and they
are scheduled for this event anyway and they would be available (2 deputies) to attend the
event at the Haynes Center and stay through the evening, thus reducing the need for the DPS
for the entire event. The Center also recommended having a student technician from the
Student Union in attendance as well and the costs for that would be minimal (we have placed a
call to the Student Union)
RECOMMENDATION (S): The Manager recommends that the Board amend their
regular meeting calendar by:
• Consider moving the May 31St Budget Public Hearing, at 7:30 p.m.,
from the F. Gordon Battle Courtroom to the Superior Courtroom
(upstairs from the F. Gordon Battle Courtroom), 106 East Margaret
Lane in Hillsborough; and
• Consider moving the June 4th Budget Public Hearing at 7:30 p.m.
