PURPOSE: To accept a certificate of appreciation from Governor Martin
for Orange County's efforts towards Hurricane Andrew relief.
BACKGROUND: In the aftermath of Hurricane Andrew's devastating impact
on South Florida earlier this year, a number of local governments
across North Carolina mobilized resources to help in cleanup and relief
efforts. The Town of Chapel Hill sent staff and equipment, and Orange
County Emergency Management coordinated the organization of relief help
in the area.
Governor Martin has signed a certificate of appreciation to Orange
County for its assistance with the response to Hurricane Andrew. A
representative of the State Office of Emergency Management will attend
to present the certificate to the County on behalf of the Governor.
RECOMMENDATION(S) : The Manager recommends that the Board accept the
certificate of appreciation.
