1. MPO and RPO Long Range Transportation Needs (no attachments)
Both transportation entities are working towards better collaboration among urban
issues (MPO) i.e. computer pattern) and rural issues (RPO) i.e. rural bus service)
across jurisdictional boundaries. Discussion needs to continue between MPO
and RPO on transportation 'feeder' patterns.
2. County Population Projections prepared by Triangle JCOG and other to
Access Regional Growth and Transportation Needs (attachments)
Recent Demographic population and employment projections have been provided to the
MPO and Chapel Hill Long Range Transit Committee. Considerable population growth
is being shown in Chatham County.
3. Major Development Projects Near County Border that Affect
Traffic Modeling (no attachments)
Projects such as the Lee Oil Company proposed partially straddling county line for
access can create traffic counts and different network increases that necessitate
changes in programmed roadway design (such as Smith Level Road).

There are little efforts between Orange and Chatham county transportation systems.
However, Chapel Hill Transit has a park and ride lot near Cole Park Plaza (Hwy 15 -501)
near Chatham county line for employees of UNC systems. This park and ride is currently
operated by Carolina Livery but will be operated by Chapel Hill Transit July 2007.
The Triangle Regional Development Plan process has reviewed the possibility of
including Chatham Transit Network into the three county regional study (Wake, Durham,
Orange). This study provides these counties with coordinating and/or consolidating
options within the transit systems.
A process was just completed that provided a financial plan for the Metropolitan
Planning Organization (MPO). This included all partial and whole counties involved in
the MPO (Durham, portion of Chatham, large portion of Orange). A meeting is schedule
to provide a financial plan to expense the transit MPO funds to these three area.
Chatham Transit Network is a member of the Rural Regional Network (Wake, Orange,
Durham, Lee, Moore counties). These transit representatives meet quarterly to discuss
coordination efforts between the counties.
Chatham Transit Network is a member of the North Carolina Public Transportation
Association (NCPTA) as is Orange Public Transportation. This association provides
avenues and forums to discuss coordination of transit systems.
