High School Athletic Association state championship. BACKGROUND: The Carrboro High School Women's Volleyball Team won the state 2A championship on November 5, 2016 to complete a perfect 30-0 season. It is the first state title for the team. The team is coached by Steve Scanga. FINANCIAL IMPACT: There is no financial impact associated with this item. SOCIAL JUSTICE IMPACT: There are no Orange County Social Justice Goals applicable to this item. RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board approve and authorize the Chair to sign the proclamation recognizing the Carrboro High School Women's Volleyball Team on winning the state championship and for representing the community with the highest ideals of sportsmanship and integrity. 2 ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS PROCLAMATION OF RECOGNITION ON CARRBORO HIGH SCHOOL WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL TEAM WINNING THE 2016 STATE CHAMPIONSHIP WHEREAS, on November 5, 2016, the Carrboro High School Women's Volleyball Team captured the North Carolina High School Athletic Association's (NCHSAA) 2A State Championship; and WHEREAS, under the guidance of Coach Steve Scanga, the Carrboro High School Women's Soccer Team earned its first NCHSAA State title after making it to the final four teams in each of the previous two seasons; and WHEREAS, the Lady Jaguars completed the season with a 30-0 record; and WHEREAS, through hard work, dedication, teamwork, and commitment, the Lady Jaguars brought honor upon themselves, Carrboro High School, the Chapel Hill / Carrboro City Schools District and Orange County; NOW, THEREFORE, be it proclaimed that the Orange County Board of Commissioners expresses its sincere appreciation and respect for the Carrboro High School Women's Volleyball Team and Coach Scanga, for the Jaguars' outstanding achievement, and for their inspiration to youth across North Carolina through their dedication, teamwork, and athletic prowess.
