High School Athletic Association state championships. BACKGROUND: The Chapel Hill High School Men's and Women's Cross Country teams each won the state 3A championship on November 5, 2016. The Women's team won the title for the second consecutive season and for the 11th time in school history. The Men's team won its first title since 2010 and its 10th in school history. The teams are led by Head Coach Joan Nesbit Mabe. FINANCIAL IMPACT: There is no financial impact associated with this item. SOCIAL JUSTICE IMPACT: There are no Orange County Social Justice Goals applicable to this item. RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board approve and authorize the Chair to sign the proclamation recognizing the Chapel Hill High School Men's and Women's Cross Country teams on the winning the state championships and for representing the community with the highest ideals of sportsmanship and integrity. 2 ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS PROCLAMATION OF RECOGNITION ON CHAPEL HILL HIGH SCHOOL WINNING 2016 STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS IN MEN'S AND WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY WHEREAS, on November 5, 2016, the Chapel Hill High School Men's and Women's Cross Country Teams each won the North Carolina High School Athletic Association's (NCHSAA) 3A State Championship meet; and WHEREAS, under the guidance of Coach Joan Nesbit Mabe, the women's team won its 1 1 th NCHSAA state championship and its second consecutive title, and the men's team claimed its 10th state title; and WHEREAS, through hard work, dedication, teamwork, and commitment, the teams brought honor upon themselves, Chapel Hill High School, the Chapel Hill / Carrboro City Schools District and Orange County; NOW, THEREFORE, be it proclaimed that the Orange County Board of Commissioners expresses its sincere appreciation and respect for the Chapel Hill High School Men's and Women's Cross Country Teams and Coach Mabe for their outstanding achievements, and for their inspiration to youth across North Carolina through their dedication, teamwork, and athletic prowess.
