The Board of Commi ssionars of Orange County, North Carolina, met Tuesdaq,
September 7, 1954 et 10 o'clock A. Id. for their regular monthly meeting in
tho Commissioners' Room at the Courthouse.
ISembers present: Chairman R. 0. Forrest, end Commissioners Sim L. Efland
end R. J, td. Hobbs.
Lii sa Ruth Thompson, Homo Demons fret lon Agent, appeared and made a fine
report on the vrork being done through her organization. She requested a
new typewriter for her office in the New Courthouse. The Board granted this
request.
R. Hume Claytor, County Dog Warden, reported that 3,194 Orange County
doge had beon vaccinated this ye¢r to date. Upon motion of Commissioner
Efland, seconded by Commissioner Hobbs, R. Humo Claytor was authorized to
accept cats and make the prover disposal of same.
IIpon motion of Commissioner Robb s, seconded by Commissioner Efland, it
was voted thnt Ore nga County declare September 26th to October 2nd ¢s Rural
Health 4•le ek in con~unc tioa with the State Proclamation.
Ueon motion duly made and seconded, the following change in Aid to Blind
Grants were approved:
Margaret C1¢rk - Refectad
Bertha Neville - Reduced from X38 psr month to X33 per month.

od the Commissioners to go with them to Rele igh and discuss with Intr. R. Eugene
Brown, of the State 4'fe !fare Department, the anperent deficit in the Sdelf¢re
Hudgat for this fiscal year.
The following road petitions grate presented to the Board:
(1) Ro¢d in Chapel Hill Township, running from Oakwood Drive to Cleland
Road, it being the remaining 1125 feet of Oakwood Drive thet is not
state meintaine d,
(2) Road in Cheeks Township, runnity; from 01d r',`10 Highway South to Old
Squires Place, a distance of 3 mLles.
IIpon motion duly made and seconded the petition for the Road in Chapel
Hill Torrnshin was approved and ordered sent to the State Highway end Public
Storks Commission for thdir consideration. No action was taken at this time
forthe, petition on the road in Cheeks TorrnsIDip.
A letter was read from Lir. L. H. Gunter, District Engineer for State
Hi ghwaq & Public 4'lorks Commisslon, advising that the mileage allocation Tor
Addition to State Sgstem in Orange County Tor the fiscal year endi^g Jvne
30, 1955 was 7.26 miles.
