Box 8181 Hillsborough, NC 27278 Dear M . arey: As you may be aware, President Clinton and the Congress of the United States have declared the week of November 27 through December 3, 1994, as World Home Care Week. In addition, Governor James B. Hunt has also issued a proclamation declaring that week as Home Care Week in North Carolina. The Home Health Agency of Chapel Hill would appreciate your issuing a proclamation on behalf of National Home Care Week (see attached example). The Home Health Agency of Chapel Hill, Inc., a community sponsored not-for-profit agency, has been providing home health care in Orange County since 1970. This year, our 400+ employees, including nurses, therapists, medical social workers and, home health aides, will provide home health care services to over 2,300 community residents. Your recognition of World Home Care Week will also make a difference. We believe that all those involved in providing home care whether employees, volunteers, or family members, are the unsung heroes. In celebration of World Home Care Week, the Home Health Agency of Chapel Hill cordially invites you to join a caregiver on a home visit during the month of December. Please call Gay Fletcher at (919) 918-2216 by November 23, 1994, if you would like to go on a home visit. As an alternative to institutional care , home care fosters a sense of independence and self-respect by affording patients the right to receive services in the comfort of their homes , and with the reassurance and companionship of family and friends , and WHEREAS, through the dedication and caring of Orange County home care providers and caregivers , a wide variety of home care services are available to our citizens . Home care allows quality care to be brought to all those in need: the young and old, indigent and wealthy , urban and rural . By caring for the _ individual at home, home care not only strengthens the family bond, but serves as a cost-effective method of care by avoiding unnecessary institutional care, and WHEREAS, home care providers are recognized for their meaningful work with our ill and disabled citizens . Through the special relationships formed between patient and caregiver, a better quality of life and sense of dignity are achieved by many Orange County residents each year , NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Orange County Board of Commissioners , do hereby proclaim November 27th through December 3rd, 1994 as "National Home Care Week" in Orange County and urge our citizens to recognize the efforts of home care providers and the families and friends of the elderly and disabled who provide important services in the home .
