PURPOSE: To consider a proclamation recognizing the UNC Men's Lacrosse Team for winning
the 2016 NCAA Division I Men's Lacrosse National Championship.
BACKGROUND: On May 30, 2016 the University of North Carolina Men's Lacrosse Team
captured the NCAA National Championship.
Under the guidance of Head Coach Joe Breschi, the UNC Men's Lacrosse Team earned its first
NCAA National Championship title since 1991.
The UNC Men's Lacrosse program inspires youth across the nation through their dedication,
teamwork and athletic prowess.
FINANCIAL IMPACT: There is no financial impact associated with this item.
SOCIAL JUSTICE IMPACT: There is no Orange County Social Justice Goal impact associated
with this item.
RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board approve the attached
proclamation recognizing the UNC Men's Lacrosse Team for winning the 2016 National
Championship and authorize the Chair to sign the proclamation on behalf of the Board.

PROCLAMATION OF RECOGNITION ON
UNC MEN'S LACROSSE TEAM WINNING THE
2016 NCAA LACROSSE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP
WHEREAS, on May 30, 2016, the University of North Carolina men's lacrosse team captured
the NCAA Division I Men's Lacrosse National Championship; and,
WHEREAS, under the guidance of Head Coach Joe Breschi, the UNC men's lacrosse team
earned its first NCAA National Championship title since 1991; and,
WHEREAS, the Tar Heels completed the season with a 14-13 overtime win against Maryland;
and,
WHEREAS, the UNC men's lacrosse team finished the year with a 12-6 record; and,
WHEREAS, through hard work, dedication, teamwork, and commitment, the Tar Heels have
brought honor upon themselves, the University of North Carolina, Orange County
and the State of North Carolina;
NOW, THEREFORE, be it proclaimed that the Orange County Board of Commissioners
expresses its sincere appreciation and respect for the University of North Carolina
men's lacrosse team, for the Tar Heels' outstanding achievement, and for their
inspiration to youth across the nation through their dedication, teamwork, and
athletic prowess.
