The Board of County Commis sloaers for Orange County met in an ed,~ournad
meeting on 7AOndey, July 26, 1954 et 7:30 o'clock P.M. Sn the Commisalansre'
Room at the Courthouse.

DSds were presented on office furniture for the New Courthouse and
benches for the Courtroom as follows:
Bids on benches were offered by Southern Desk Company, Hickory, N. C.
snd Cerrlker Church Furniture Company, Monroe, N. C.
Lowest bid by Southern Desk Company was ~r3,958.42, lowest bid by Carriker
Church Furniture Compa:g was y3, 544.00. Do th bids ware for select Appalachin
Red Oak.
Bids on office furniture ware prea anted by the following:

The abovs figures vrere of ter dls coon ts. All bidders were to furnish
N.yrtle desks, except S. T. wyrick & Co., who bid on Hanes desks. The Hanes
dells were reported to be a cheaper desk than biyrtla desk.

Sn edditl on to the above, there shall be a ;1.00 penalty charged on each
tax account which is not listed during the period specified by law Tor this
purposes.

perty within the Chapel H111 Special School District, with the proceeds from
this levy to be remitted to the Bald Dis trlet upon collection for the purpose
of meeting the current expense needs of the School District.
In addition to the above lava ea, the maximum amounts of texas allowed to
be levied under Schedule D of the Revenue Apt of 1939, as emended, ere hereby
levied. The County Tex Collector is hereby authoriz ed and Sns trot fed to
collect the maximum taxes es provided by said Revenue Act.
On motion of Commissioner Efland, seconded by Commissioner Hobbs, with
ell members vating in the efflrmetly e, the following rea olu ti on covering
appropriations for the fls cal year 1954-1955 Ss adopted, to wit:

an unencumbered balance of x'10,500 and other revenue such es fees mid com-
miasione with en approprl at ion from the ftec ord ers Court Fund of §12,040 which
is the amount in addition to the unencumbered balance and fees end commieslonv
necessary to raise the total epproprie tion for selari ea. This arpropriation
of 112,040 Se her abq spec if lcally transferred from the Recorders Court Fund
to the Salary Fund.
That the above flp aoprl atlon for schools, es will be shown In detail by
reference to the School Budget stet amen is which have been filed by the Orflnga
County Board of Fduca tlon and the Boe-d of Trusts sa of the Chapel Bill School
Administrative unit end which budgets have been approved by this Board, it is
determined that the Chapel Hill Special Cher ter District shall receive under
the heed of Current Expense the sum of $~32, 021.00 end under the head of
Capital Outlay the sum of „.47,371.00.
IIpon motion of Commis sinner Efla nd, end seconded by Commies inner Hobbs,
the following reaoly tion was unanimously adopted:
RESOLVID, That whereas a term of Orange County Superior Court Tor the
trial of criminal ces es is scheduled to convene on the 23rd day of Au gue t,
1954; end
Vthereas, 5. T. Latta, Sheriff of 0-enge County and E. Li, Lynch, Clerk
of Superior Court of Oren ge County, are requesting that the term scheduled
to convene on the 23rd day of August, 1954, bs cent ailed:

NOW THEREFORE:, The Bom^d of Commissioners of Orange County, being of
the opinion that it would be to the best interest of Orange County and its
citizens to cancel. the said term of court which is set to begin on the 23rd
day of August, 1954, do hereby respectfully ask end request tho Honorable
M. V. Barnhill, Chief Jus tics of the Supreme Court of North Carolina, to
cancel the sold term of court Sor the reason hereinbefore set forth.
It is ordered that a certi£lad copy of th1.s resolution be submitted to
the said Chief Justice.
WHEREAS, The State Highway mid Public Works Commission hea filed with ,
the Board of Commis inners of the County of Orange a map des igne tad as Pro-
ject 5-356 showing a propoe ed relocation of a section of county road; and
Vlhere as, St ec pe ers that this relocation is for ~thebest interea t-of the
road system of the said county;

Efland, the proposed-change end reloc etion es shown on the said map 1s hereby
